Eder Perez
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor who provides a warm, respectful, and judgment-free space where you can feel heard and understood. I work with adults,, and individuals navigating anxiety, trauma and ptsd, self esteem challenges, life transitions, and difficult experiences. As a Spanish-speaking therapist, I value culturally responsive care and understand that your background, family, relationships, and life experiences can all shape how you see yourself and the world around you. My approach is collaborative and tailored to your individual needs. Together, we’ll work toward greater self-awareness, healthier relationships, and meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.
First session
Your first session is an opportunity to slow down, feel heard, and begin to make sense of what brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about what you’re experiencing, what you hope to change, and what you would like to get from counseling. I’ll also explain how I work and answer any questions you may have, so you can feel comfortable with the process. With individual clients, we focus on your personal experiences, emotions, relationships, and goals. With couples, we explore the relationship dynamics and communication patterns that may be creating challenges, while making space for both partners. With families, we look at patterns of interaction and how each person can contribute to healthier communication and connection. I hope you leave your first session feeling listened to, respected, and with a clearer sense that you don't have to figure everything out on your own. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we’ll work together to determine what approach and pace are most helpful for you.
Strengths
I was drawn to therapy because I’ve always been interested in understanding people—their experiences, relationships, and the challenges that shape who they are. My professional experience in behavioral health and quality of care showed me how meaningful it can be when someone feels genuinely heard, respected, and supported. Becoming a therapist gave me the opportunity to work directly with people during some of the most difficult and important moments of their lives. I value helping individuals to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and find healthier ways to move forward. For me, therapy is about creating a safe space where people can be honest about what they’re experiencing and feel supported as we work together toward meaningful change.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adults, couples, and families who are looking for support through a difficult season or a time of change. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, family challenges, stress, or simply feel stuck and unsure of how to move forward. I work well with people who are open to self-reflection and interested in understanding themselves and their relationships more deeply. Whether you’re hoping to improve communication, strengthen a relationship, manage difficult emotions, work through past experiences, or create meaningful changes in your life, therapy can be a place to slow down, gain perspective, and develop practical tools for moving forward.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In therapy, we work together to identify patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, low mood, or relationship difficulties. I use CBT in a practical and collaborative way. We may look at how you interpret a situation, explore whether certain thoughts are helping or getting in the way, and develop healthier ways of responding. We may also work on specific skills and strategies that you can practice between sessions. The goal isn’t to simply “think positive.” It’s to better understand your patterns, build practical tools, and develop more flexible ways of responding to difficult situations.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you build a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions rather than feeling like you have to get rid of them before moving forward. In therapy, we may explore what matters most to you, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and practice ways of responding to difficult thoughts and feelings without letting them control your choices. We focus on taking meaningful steps toward the life and relationships you want, even when things feel challenging. The goal is not to ignore difficult emotions or simply “think positive.” It is to develop greater flexibility, understand yourself more deeply, and make choices that are consistent with your values.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps you better understand and manage strong emotions, stressful situations, and difficult relationship patterns. In therapy, we may work on practical skills for handling intense emotions, communicating more effectively, managing stress, and responding to difficult situations without making things harder for yourself. We may also look at patterns that can lead to feeling overwhelmed or stuck and develop healthier ways of responding. The goal is to help you feel more in control of your emotions and choices, strengthen your relationships, and handle life’s challenges with greater confidence and balance.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative approach that helps you explore what you want to change and what may be getting in the way. In therapy, we’ll talk about your goals, values, and reasons for making a change without judgment or pressure. I’ll help you identify your own strengths and motivation while working through uncertainty or mixed feelings about change. The goal is not for me to tell you what you should do. It’s to help you gain clarity, build confidence, and take steps toward changes that are meaningful to you.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma-informed care means creating a safe, respectful, and supportive space where your experiences are taken seriously and you remain in control of your therapy. In our work, we may explore how past experiences have affected your emotions, relationships, sense of safety, or the way you respond to stressful situations. We’ll move at a pace that feels manageable for you and focus on building trust, understanding your patterns, and developing healthy ways to cope. The goal is to help you feel more understood and supported while building greater confidence, safety, and control in your life.
