LICSW, 20 years of experience
I received my BA in English, Creative Writing from Bates College in Maine, and my MSW from Smith College in Massachusetts. I have practiced for over 20 years in both community mental health and college settings in MA, VT and RI. I have an interest in complex trauma and how that has shaped a person's sense of self. My goal is to work with clients to improve quality of life, reduce shame and guilt and provide a senes of overall self compassion and self worth. I believe strongly that my clients are not their diagnosis, but human beings filled with personal experiences that have created behaviors and perspectives unique to their biology, psychology and social existence. I have also received certification in EMDR, trauma informed equine assisted psychotherapy, and trauma informed mindfulness.
The first session you and I will learn about reasons you are coming, and clarify goals you have. I will answer any questions about modalities I use (CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, interpersonal, relational, narrative), and together we will determine next steps.
I have an informal, humanistic approach, with the goal of better understanding your experience through patterns that have proven useful or less useful throughout your development.
I enjoy working with people of all ages, race and gender identity.

So far, so good. I would check all of the boxes if we weren’t limited to two boxes. Very open minded, asks good questions, patient and attentive. A good fit.

The kindest and most nonjudgmental therapist I've talked to. Solution oriented, but still so validating and aware of how tough things can be.

I like that Meghan has a history working with people with complex backgrounds. She's friendly, respectful and direct. This was our first session, but I feel this experience will continue with these traits.
