My name is Monica Rosa and I am a Cape Verdean American clinician with over 10 years of experience in the field of social work. Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, and home-based environments, which has provided me with extensive

I believe my many years in social work, my experience in countless settings, and my diverse background have been essential in helping clients with multiple mental health issues and managing their symptoms.

experience supporting diverse populations and navigating a wide range of challenges. I provide compassionate individual therapy for adults and children struggling with anxiety, depression, and everyday life stressors. I am committed to creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives. My approach is client-centered and collaborative, with a focus on building healthy coping skills, improving emotional well-being, and fostering personal growth.

First session

During the first session, clients can expect a welcoming and open space where they are encouraged to discuss their concerns, fears, and expectations for therapy. This initial session is an opportunity for clients to share their experiences, explore the goals they would like to work toward, and discuss what they hope therapy will look and feel like for them. Together, we will begin building a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship tailored to each client’s individual needs and personal growth journey.

Strengths

What makes me unique as a clinician is my versatility of experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, populations, and age groups. These experiences have strengthened my ability to meet clients where they are and tailor treatment to their unique needs and circumstances. My approach to therapy is client-centered and collaborative. I believe it is essential for clients to feel actively involved in their treatment process, as therapy works best when individuals feel empowered, supported, and heard throughout their journey.

Ideal clients

I'm best positioned to serve clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, and life stressors. Clients who are willing to work on coping skills and to use them. Clients who want to be more involved with their treatment and what they would like to work on. Clients who ask questions and let me know what is working for them and what is not working for them.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used CBT for anxiety and depression in the school setting. With the use if CBT, I have seen a decrease in student's depression and anxiety during classes and a decrease in anxiety symptoms. In the hospital setting, I have used CBT with an intervention called Family Behavioral Crisis Intervention/ FBCI. This intervention has has led to the decrease of children being hospitalized and using a lower level of care such as outpatient therapy and a PHP.

Motivational Interviewing

I have used motivational interviewing with clients that are struggling with substance use. Through the use of motivational Interviewing, clients have been able to decrease their substance use and maintain sobriety with other supports.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)

I have used CBT_SP in the hospital setting during psychiatric evaluations and to decrease suicide risk and manage symptoms outside of the hospital setting which has decreased the level of hospitalization.
