About
Hello & Welcome, I am Dr. Watson and I am happy to see you seeking services and reclaiming your joy. I commend you for taking the first step to improving your life. As a licensed psychotherapist in IL, AZ, CO, KY, ME, CT, DE, and OH. I have 30 years of experience working with teens, adults, and seniors, I look forward to partnering with you through your transition and supporting you in getting back into your journey of life.
First responders, partners and families of first responders are specialized populations I help by addressing needs, increasing understanding, and strengthening support.
I specialize in working with people in transition including integrating better balance, managing life stressors, addressing health challenges, rediscovering wellness, and mid-life changes. Other areas of specialty include grief and loss, women’s issues, post-partum adjustment, multiethnic identity development/integration, student-athlete balance, and generalized life struggles. First responders, partners and families of first responders are specialized populations I help by addressing needs, increasing understanding, and strengthening support. Together we will explore obstacles and hurdles while discovering manageable strength-based changes that will improve your whole self - mind, body, and spirit. I partner with you on your journey and assist you in reclaiming your best self. Through mind-body connection and holistic approaches, I embrace creative therapeutic tools including talk, movement, music, art, getting in nature, and other creative avenues to ease expression of the challenges while finding your strengths and successes. My goal is to assist you in finding and retrieving your purpose while living with meaning. My clinical practice motto is “Love YOUR Journey ~ Live YOUR Life.”
First session
In our first session together, we will start with getting to know each other through introductions. I will gather some history and ask about your reasons for seeking therapy. I will also want to know what you have tried thus far. From our interaction and information gathered, we will review a plan of action and discuss next steps including if you want to meet again.
Strengths
My strengths include my ability to build positive, supportive relationships with clients while remaining client-centered allowing client’s the flexibility and security to explore change and increase knowledge of their symptoms and experiences. I believe everyone has their own journey in life and that we all deserve to have peace and calm with purpose and meaning. Therefore, I embrace the motto “Love YOUR Journey ~ Live YOUR Life” which drives my work.
Ideal clients
I am particularly focused on adults struggling with life transitions, career outcomes, aging changes, post-partum adjustment, parenting concerns, and relationship struggles. I also focus on working with stress and trauma related to folks working on the front lines, dealing with people, and first responders.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT methods to address symptoms and problems. First, together, we identify symptoms and sources for the discomfort. Then we address ways to change thinking, perceptions, emotions, and behaviors with the goal of decreasing symptoms and improving comfort.
Compassion Focused
I incorporate Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) into my work as I encourage clients to tell their story, understand their experience, and heal from pain, hurts, disappointments, and wounds. From a compassionate approach, I create a safe space where clients can understand and heal from experiences that have left them feeling overly critical, doubtful, mistrusting, shameful, etc. Forgiveness is a foundation of CFT and together, client and I will work toward reducing areas of challenge and disruptive emotions.
Humanistic
Trained in humanistic foundations, I utilize this approach to connect with clients and understand their unique experience in life. As I use the humanistic approach, the goal is to minimize limiting beliefs so clients can "live their best life." It is my goal to help clients reclaim their joy and life to their fullest. I use the treatment motto, "Love YOUR Journey, Live YOUR Life."
Narrative
Using narrative therapy, I encourage clients to understand "their story" while recognizing they are separate from their symptoms, challenges, problems. Together we look at a client's value, core beliefs, and skills. We address the disconnect in "their story" and work toward a better understanding while empowering the client to make necessary changes.
Strength-Based
Strength-based focused therapy is a positive psychology approach that helps me work with client's to identify their unique skills, strengths, and resilience. I help the client embrace these areas, fine tune their focus and perceptions while working toward change and achieve new goals.
