Hello, my name is Cheryl Babb and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCS27383). Change is hard. Asking for help is hard. Transformation is worth it! Therapy is about relationships - and about helping you to uncover your internal processes and patterns to understand how you relate to yourself and others. My goal as a therapist is for you to feel seen, heard, and understood and to collaborate with you to meet your goals. I have a warm, supportive style with a healthy dose of directness, swearing and humor. You will be accepted as an extraordinary individual with unique experiences and strengths that will guide the change process. Real change happens when we accept and honor ourselves as we are right now. I will challenge your current narratives so that you can discover new ways of showing up in your life as the one and only you.
During our first session, we will have a conversation. I will ask you questions to determine your history, current coping strategies, reasons for seeking therapy and discuss your best hopes and goals for therapy. But mostly I listen to get a sense of who you are as a unique individual. From there, we will decide if we are a good fit and if you would like to move forward with additional sessions. You can expect to take away actionable, effective strategies from the start. You can expect that your level of self-awareness will expand exponentially with each session. You can expect to learn to love, value and respect yourself. You can also expect to break free of repetitive patterns that keep you from living the life you want to live.
I was an archaeologist before beginning my career as a therapist. While some people may think the two fields aren't related, the skills I learned as an archaeologist transferred nicely to therapy. An archaeologist pieces together a comprehensive picture of the past by examining and analyzing tangible snippets from that past. As a therapist, I explore your memories, perceptions and presence to generate a picture of your true self. From there, we focus on what is keeping you from living a meaningful life fueled by clarity, passion, and purpose.
I specialize in Anxiety, Depression, Adult ADHD / Neurodiversity, Women's Empowerment, LGBTQ+, Life Transitions, Self-Esteem and helping you become your best, authentic self - whatever that looks like! Therapy is not a one-size fits all experience so I have an eclectic approach grounded in proven therapeutic models. I have studied and participated in advanced post-graduate trainings in Mindfulness, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused, Jungian and Gestalt models. I have explored art therapy, plant medicine, breath work, and energy healing modalities. This combination of approaches has taught me to look beneath the surface to uncover and heal the roots of my client's struggles. We might not be a good fit if you're someone who: * Wants a conventional, clinical approach to therapy. * Has no interest in exploring holistic or alternative healing modalities. * Avoids taking responsibility for their actions and making necessary changes. * Is unwilling to examine and change old belief systems or patterns. * Wants quick solutions without wanting to delve into deeper issues. * Wants the therapist to lead the process entirely, without actively engaging or fully committing to the therapeutic process.
Supportive psychotherapy focuses on providing encouragement, emotional support and validation during difficult circumstances, life phases or psychological challenges.
