Hello! I am Samantha, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my master's degree from the University of La Verne in 2016. My journey to mental healthcare began with a deep desire to make a difference in people's lives. I bring experience working with children, adolescents and adults to help navigate life's challenges. As your therapist, I believe you are the expert of your own life. I aim to create a supportive, non-judgmental space where you feel heard and validated. Through compassion and collaboration, we will work together to find solutions and foster positive change. You are the expert of your life and I will be here to walk alongside and support you. Asking for help isn't easy. Thank you for taking the first step!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, we will focus on creating a safe and comfortable space for you to share your story. I will listen attentively to understand your unique experiences, concerns, and goals for therapy. We will collaboratively explore your strengths, challenges, and aspirations, laying the foundation for our therapeutic journey together. This initial session is an opportunity for us to build rapport and ensure that I am the right fit to support you in achieving your mental health objectives.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have always been told that I am a great listener. During our sessions, you can count on me to truly listen to you and your story. I have been told by numerous clients that I provide a safe space for them to feel comfortable sharing difficult things. I have also been told that I am warm, welcoming and funny! I can't wait to listen to your story!

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I specialize in helping individuals cope with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, relationship issues, and self-esteem. My focus is on empowering you, providing various coping mechanisms and supporting your personal growth.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use person centered therapy in sessions to help create a safe, non-judgmental, empathetic environment. Person centered therapy helps you to become more self aware, self accepting and in tune to your own needs and feelings. I truly believe that you are the expert in your life and thus, with person centered therapy, I will help you navigate life challenges.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

With cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), we will discuss and identify the current problems you are experiencing and establish clear, obtainable goals for you to achieve. I will help you identify negative thoughts and beliefs and assist with reframing these thoughts. In addition, I will help you to develop more adaptive coping mechanisms for dealing with negative emotions, stress or difficult situations.

Narrative

Narrative therapy is an approach that views you as the author of your own story, and it emphasizes understanding and rewriting the narratives that shape your identity and experiences. In session, I help to externalize and separate the problem from you. You are not the problem- the problem is the problem. We will highlight the strengths and competencies that may have been overlooked or overshadowed by this negative narrative. We will celebrate the change and the progress you make, while continuing to change the narrative.
