Hi I am a LCMHC I have a holistic approach to helping clients work thru their grief and loss . It can be a loss of a love one thru gun violence.or sudden death like a heart attack or some other health issue .Loss of a relationship ,a divorce or a devastating medical diagnosis or a change of health can and does bring a lot of grief . Even being on an eating plan that changes our weight and brings up many feeling and emotions as we struggle to be successful. I have worked with those going thru the aging process which often means they cannot complete tasks and do things that they used to do resulting in a sense of loss But I have seen in my practice clients find a sense of purpose emerge as they experience moment to moment the myriad of feelings , sensations that are often associated with grief . Going thru a loss can be a very difficult time in one’s life and we often have a need to see a professional to help us navigate the rough terrain of grief . I have also seen it be thru grief and loss one finds their purpose. There is hope . . .

Welcome! You made the first step of looking up a therapist. Regardless of family structure, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, race, or other minority identity, you are welcome. Though it’s up to you to determine whether I meet the definition of ‘ally’, I will always do my best to provide a welcoming, inclusive, safe space for all, and view therapy through a social justice lens. I’m also someone who’s experienced burnout, and body image + identity issues, and someone who’s gotten through it with deep and extensive self-care, reflection, and big life transitions. I get it – change is hard, but you already have what you need within you to make it happen. If you're telling yourself you should be able to get better on your own, that's really not true. It's a made up rule you're telling yourself and it's rooted in stigma. Everybody needs some help sometimes! My style has been called refreshingly honest, direct, and I've been told I have a good "BS detector". I enjoy helping people learn to become better at trusting their own intuition. I like helping people who want to start living differently by making big changes. There is a lot of laughter in my office.

Hi! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker- currently licensed in NC and seeking licensure in Georgia. I am also a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate. I received my Masters from the University of Georgia and have been practicing since 2020. I wear many hats outside of my role as a therapist, one being a new mother. This transition into motherhood has given me a new lens to see life through. I am also wife, daughter, outdoors enjoyer, cook, and exercise enthusiast. We all wear many hats or view the world through different lenses which help us relate to one another in this wild world we live in. As a therapist, I believe I bring a compassionate and calm energy to the space I share with clients. I show up as my authentic self which means I can be a little irreverent, I will gently challenge you, and I will probably laugh at jokes that, as a therapist, I shouldn't. I am not a "blank slate" kind of therapist, but I also won't tell you what choices you should make as I believe the client is the expert in their own life. I walk along side my clients and hold space where you need it- whether that is you needing an empathetic ear or assistance with making life changing decisions. I recognize that it is a privilege to do what I do. I look forward walking along side you!

Hi, my name is Anna Lanier-Comar. I have been practicing in the mental health field for 17 years. I served in the Air Force Reserves for 8 years as a Mental Health Technician while earning my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I completed the requirements for Licensure while working at an inpatient Eating Disorder Facility in North Carolina. I have been practicing as a Licensed Therapist since 2017. Most of my professional experience is in treating Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar disorder, Borderline personality disorder and Eating disorders. I use a few different modalities in therapy. I work to help clients feel empowered over their human experience; good and bad. If you have not participated in therapy before it can seem a little daunting. During the first session, we will go over your relevant history and compile a list of goals you would like to accomplish while in therapy. In the following sessions, we will increase coping skills and strategies, along with awareness of your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Throughout therapy we will work to increase your resilience, confidence and adaptability to all life has to throw at you, as well as heal from the parts of your past that need your attention.

Kudos to you for recognizing the need to focus on your overall well-being including your mental health. At the beginning of therapy many individuals often feel overwhelmed with various emotions, especially talking to a stranger about their concerns. I seek to make my clients feel welcomed and heard by working with them to identify past and present life events and the impact they have on their interactions internally and externally. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows clients to explore obstacles with concerns related to anxiety, depression, and/or self-care. I focus on helping clients develop assertive communication & boundaries with themselves and those around them that can help improve their quality of life. Counseling sets the stage for self-awareness, healing, grieving, feeling empowered which can lead to change and growth. What you allow will continue, and change is a personal choice. If you’re ready to challenge yourself and create the life you want, I look forward to working with you.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by North Carolina rather than a city like Charlotte?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across North Carolina from Raleigh to Greensboro! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in North Carolina.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Eating Disorders?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Eating Disorders, is filtering therapists in North Carolina that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
