I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) licensed in Massachusetts and have been in the field for 14 years. I am a member of the LGBTQ community. I have worked in various therapeutic settings in the past 14 years from residential treatment facilities to outpatient counseling. I strive to create a therapeutic space where we can work on your individual goals and specialize in patients experiencing anxiety & depression. I would describe myself as observant, an active listener and compassionate. I maintain an environment free of judgement.
In our first session together, we will have brief introductions and what made you want to seek therapy. From there, I believe in continuing to build rapport and developing a treatment plan with tailored goals to work towards. By the conclusion of the first session, we can decide how often therapy will be helpful for you.
It is important for me to assist you in creating treatment goals targeted at decreasing your unwanted feelings regardless of your diagnosis. As a provider, I will be an active listener and provide psychoeducation and offer coping mechanisms that are helpful to your situation.
Welcome! I'm Marie (she/her) Take a moment to acknowledge you've taken the first step towards bettering your mental health because, let's be honest - starting therapy can be empowering, confusing, or scary, all at the same time. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows clients to explore obstacles with concerns related to anxiety, depression, and/or self-care. I focus on helping clients develop assertive communication & boundaries with themselves and those around them that can help improve their quality of life. Counseling can foster personal development in whatever way you may be seeking and help build the life you so deeply deserve. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here when you're ready to share or not--We can also talk about the weather or the latest Patriots loss--until you are ready. Building rapport with your therapist is an important part of your treatment.
I have used DBT as one of the main modes of therapy and have been using this since the start of my career. I do believe it's vital components: Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance can be useful for most clients.
CBT is another mode of therapy I use often and have practiced since the start of my career. Thoughts, feelings and behaviors are important and it is vital to understand why you may act in certain ways. Improving self-awareness of this area can help most people be their best selves.
I do have experience using trauma focused CBT. This model will be helpful for those who have experienced trauma and are not ready to process it but want to eventually recover from it. The steps of TF-CBT can be life changing for those with a trauma history.
I practice from the mindset of being trauma informed. This is a fancy way of indicating that I am nonjudgemental. I am always curious of behaviors to attempt to understand why my clients may act the way they do and feel the feelings they experience.
