My name is Shaylyn. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor/ Behavior Analyst. I currently work full time doing behavior analysis in High School. I have 10 plus years of experience in working with the Autistic population. I am also well versed in anxiety and mood disorders. I have a great interest in providing spiritual counseling and supports for marginalized communities. I also am looking to support young adults in career guidance.
In the first session, I will provide you an opportunity to share your primary concerns and reasons for seeking treatment. I will also try to learn about family history and all information relevant to therapeutic care.
My greatest strength as a provider is my willingness to provide comprehensive care. While clients may seek treatment for one particular issue, I try to support in all aspects of his or her life. I am also willing to prepare for my sessions to ensure that time is well spent, and the client is receiving some form of education.
The ideal client is the client who is ready to make a change, and willing to work towards a healthier, happier future.
I use Cognitive behavioral therapy in helping clients identify cognitive distortions and negative thought patterns that may be contributing to anxiety/depression etc. I also help client to identify core beliefs and automatic thoughts. I am dually licensed as a Behavior Analyst as well, so I specialize in behavioral science.
I have worked at a Christain Counseling Center previously. I find it helpful, encouraging, and humbling to speak about God's grace and love that he has for us (Hence "Grace every Morning". In doing so and using spirituality as a compass so to speak, our life can feel more fulfilled, connected and meaningful.
I will use components of ACT in treatment to include "self as context" and value congruency. Values alignment is really important in finding footing.
I have both studied and lived the experience of being a black American. I would love to be able to provide therapy, especially to young women regarding experiences of being black in America. I have a willingness to treat all marginalized groups.
