My name is Laura Curry, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#113832). I am certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I have worked in schools, inpatient, outpatient, and in the community. I have worked in county services, a psychiatric health facility, a crisis residential facility, substance use treatment programs and community programs. The youngest client I have worked with was 3 years old and the oldest was 87. I am a mother of 2 and have been married for 20 years. I am originally from Sacramento County and I am currently a resident of El Dorado county for the last 10 years. I enjoy working in the mental health field and I am passionate about what I do.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is an introduction of myself (personal and profession). I discuss the risks and benefits of therapy, expectations of myself and the client, limitations to confidentiality, mandated reporting, and work with the client to gather information on their background, presenting problems, and symptoms. I work with the client to discuss the diagnostic criteria and ensure they understand their diagnoses. The client and I will discuss and develop treatment plan goals, and begin discussing what discharge may look like for them.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have a big heart, I am true to myself, and authentic to those around me. I hope to show others resiliency can be built, skills can be learns, failure promotes growth and empathy, and the things we have gone through do not define us. I am optimistic, hopeful, and understand the cards we are dealt are not always a winning hand, and those cards can exchanged for better things, healthier things.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I believe every person deserves to thrive and every persons mental health matters. It matters to me and I hope it matters to you too. I look forward to meeting with my clients, getting to know them and helping them to find ways to thrive in their life. It’s always bittersweet when clients discharge and a necessary part of treatment. I hope the mental health journey that is happening in your life will allow our paths to meet, move forward and promote the growth that is being sought after.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I am certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I teach my clients skills to build their own toolkit and help them navigate through their mental health in order to get to the place they are striving to be. It's the client's session. I find it to be important to allow clients to have the space and time they need during their time with me. We have treatment goals and if/when other situations arise, we discuss those challenges too.
