Hi! I'm Evelyn. You can call me Yeye. The "e" has a short vowel sound. Once we meet, you can hear how it sounds. So you've decided to start therapy. It's a big step to take, but one that can take you through a journey of self-discovery. My work as a therapist is to provide compassionate mental health services to those who are looking at healing and moving forward on their life journey. With over 25+ years of experience in working with youth, adults, couples and families, I strive to support each individual I work with as they explore and learn about how best to honor themselves. My approach to mental health and wellness goes beyond managing symptoms. While working with you, I will simply guide you through a path of discovery so that you can examine, reflect and challenge yourself and the collectives that are a part of your environment so that you can live a meaningful and purposeful life.
Your first session may have you feeling a bit anxious and nervous, but that's okay. You may have never been to therapy or you've been to therapy and know that it will require some work on your part, but hey. You're here. So the first session will be more about getting to know you, and why you've chosen to start therapy at this time and we may even jump in and start an activity so that you get a sense of how I work. We'll also discuss your goals and how to move forward on your therapeutic journey.
So after being in this field for over 25+ years, you can say I learned a little about myself and what my strengths are. My passion encompasses working with PTSD, depression, anxiety, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, working with veterans, and indigenous cultural healing.
I enjoy working with individuals who are looking at their life at the moment and telling themselves, "This is the time for transformation. I want to be in charge of moving through the challenges and want support, sound clinical guidance, as well as, a therapist who I can connect with. "
A lot of my work is based on the biology of meaning. We often forget that when we come across challenges in our lives, our body is the first to respond. This is why I have an affinity in taking individuals through a journey of how their body initially responds to stress through Somatic Experiencing. Somatics is a body-oriented therapeutic model that helps heal trauma and other stress disorders.
