Everyone needs to reach out for help at some time in their lives. In an atmosphere of caring and support I'll help you explore the feelings and thoughts that make you believe you're stuck with anxiety, depression, or the effects of trauma and grief. We’ll create a calm, comfortable space where change feels natural and safe. Starting therapy takes courage, but it allows you to explore your past in a way that improves your future. My goal is to help you build the resilience and self-confidence to ride out challenges with a more peaceful mind and heart. My background as a social worker taught me to honor the whole story of your life; my experience as a therapist has shown me that healing starts with honesty, kindness, and concern. I'm happy for the opportunity to make this life-changing beginning with with you.
I'll be writing down intake information, but my focus will be on orienting my new client to the process. I'll be happy to answer any questions, and work with them to schedule appointments so therapy fits into their lives. I always tell new clients that it can be uncomfortable to start therapy, but I try to make it as painless as possible.
My age and years of work in the field are assets to my practice. Every experience in a therapist's life becomes a tool to help their clients. Few problems unfamiliar to me. As I frequently say to clients, I'm very difficult to shock. I believe humor and lightness are a part of healing. There's a lot of room for laughter along with the work. I prioritize the trust, comfort, and wellbeing of my clients, who range in age from young adults to elders.
Adults who struggle with anxiety and depression who want to learn more about how these challenges come about and how they can be managed. I'm a therapist who listens and helps brainstorm solutions. My contribution to the the therapeutic relationship is presenting options and a supportive point of view. I tend to do well with people who have struggled with authority and haven't felt always felt supported in a positive way.
My goal is to help my clients learn to trust their own wisdom and ability to problem solve. Our work will take place with interest and respect for my client's experiences, skills, and individuality. Sometimes we just need to be reminded how much we already know.
I utilize EMDR to help clients overcome specific traumas and to become less reactive to stressors. The method combines guided imagery and eye movement in order to reduce the client's response to memories or negative triggers. EMDR sessions are designed to ensure the client's feelings of safety and control, with plenty of preparation and information covered before the sessions begin.
We make links between habits of thought and patterns of behavior in order to understand how the past effects the present. We work to reframe negative self talk that gets in the way of positive changes. Over time, new habits of thought and ways of looking at challenges can become automatic.
In my practice I discuss and demonstrate the healing and grounding effect of deep breathing, guided meditation, and positive self talk and image. We discuss ways that mindfulness practices can be incorporated into their lives, from spending more time outside to beginning a meditation class.
