If you’re looking for the perfect counselor close this page and end your search because there is no "perfect" counselor. I know that’s not what most are expecting to read; but I believe that honesty (and compassion) is. My name is Davida and I’m a BIPOC Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Abilene, Texas offering virtual and in person counseling. My master's degree is in Human Science with a specialization in Marriage & Family Therapy. I’ve enjoyed working in the social services field for over 20 years with the last decade focusing on clinical counseling.
My diverse experiences have taught me many things, namely – that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counseling. Choosing the right provider for your needs is very important! In our first session, we’ll get all the paperwork/ fun legal things out of the way while starting to learn more about what brings you to therapy and what our expectations of each other are.
I believe in meeting my clients where they’re at. Whether this is your first time in therapy or you’ve had therapy in the past, each experience is different even if some techniques are the same.
I have had the privilege of working with various populations, including children, adolescents, young adults, individuals with dual diagnoses, and those with physical and or mental disabilities. I love learning from everyone I’ve had the pleasure of working with: service members, individuals with physical, mental and developmental disabilities, students, parents, families in crisis. I’m passionate about working with clients who are ready to put in the work and embrace the journey of rediscovering themselves. Many of my clients see the glass as half full. In our sessions, we will work together to pour into your glass. My biggest joy is when clients have that “aha moment”. When they are able to pause and see the picture from a different angle.
My counseling approach is eclectic; meaning I draw from various therapeutic methods to address your concerns or trauma and promote coping and cognitive-behavioral skills. some important skills from more than one form of counseling to help you address trauma, promote coping and cognitive behavioral skills. I have experience with Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI), Interpersonal and Supportive therapy. Throughout our sessions, you will be equipped with different tools from these models.
Throughout my career, I've learned that there's no one-size-fits-all approach to counseling. I firmly believe in meeting people where they are, free from judgment, and nurturing relationships that help individuals "connect the dots" and maintain control of their lives.
