Hi. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist LMFT with 14 year of experience, living in Minnesota, seeing clients in Minnesota or virtually in Ohio. I like to work with an eclectic group of clients, I enjoy seeing all types and walks of life come though my door. I meet client where they are at now, and work with them towards their goals.
In our first meeting there will be some introductions, and then I'll have some information about therapy for you. Then we'll get into the intake, but nothing to worry about, for the first meeting I'll probable ask a bunch of questions to start things out. These usually fly right by.
I'll have to answer that question with: after 14 years in the field, working in areas of community mental health, in home, crisis work, and private. I think I can say that it is hard to surprise me. If you need to share something that's going on in your life; you don't need your therapist recoiling in horror.
Feel like no one is there to that will even try to listen to you? Feel like you have a life times worth of pain to get out? But it's been a struggle connecting to others? Those are the clients that stay with me for the long haul. Come and feel heard and feel and connection.
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help individual develop psychological flexibility we work on accepting thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or avoiding them. ACT encourages individuals to connect with their values and commit to actions that align with those values, even in the presence of difficult emotions. It combines mindfulness techniques with behavioral strategies to empower people to live a meaningful, value-driven life while reducing the impact of unhelpful thoughts or feelings.
I like to use SFT because it focuses on arming you with problem solving skills by focusing on the impact of your present decisions on your future. SFT empowers you to become for goal oriented. A great tool for those struggling with managing or responding to life's problems.
