Hello and welcome! My name is Melanie Timbers, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania. In my 30's, I decided to change career paths pursuing my studies and career as a mental health therapist. This was one of the best decisions I ever made, as I consider it an honor and privilege supporting adults with improving their mental health and wellbeing. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh Master of Social Work Program, I have worked in the mental health profession for 7 years. Initially, I provided mental health therapy to adults in an intensive outpatient program of a psychiatric hospital. I also provided mental health therapy to adults with substance use disorders while working in a medication assisted treatment outpatient program. I certainly valued these experiences as well as my current role of providing outpatient mental health therapy to adults who are looking to improve their mental health, becoming the best versions of themselves.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a mental health clinician it is imperative that I build rapport with my client. Therefore, one of my greatest strengths is to provide a non biased, empathetic, and compassionate approach to therapy. This strength will provide a warm and safe environment in which the client feels safe and comfortable sharing, exploring and engaging in therapeutic interventions that are necessary for discovering the root causes, challenges and problems that poses a threat to their mental health and wellbeing.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with adults who want help with improving their mental health. Thus, my clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed, engaging in isolating and avoidant behaviors, experiencing interpersonal relationship stressors and anxious about a myriad of concerns.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a Clinical Therapist providing CBT Therapy, I help my clients with identifying and changing negative thought patterns, behaviors, and emotional responses that are causing distress or interfering with their daily lives. Therefore, by understanding how their thoughts influence their feelings and behaviors, and changing these patterns can promote mental health.

Christian Counseling

As a Clinical Therapist I will also integrate principles of the Christian faith with therapeutic practices to help clients navigate emotional, psychological, and spiritual challenges. I will incorporate prayer, Biblical principles and Christian teachings to lead clients to mental health.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

As a Clinical Therapist I utilize DBT Therapy to help guide clients through the core skills of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal relationship effectiveness skills. By learning and applying DBT Skills, clients experience improvement in their emotional and mental health.

Trauma Informed Care

As a Clinical Therapist providing care to clients who have experienced a traumatic experience, it is virtually important to create an environment of safety, compassion, and supportive where the client can heal from the effects of trauma. I will provide evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to the need of the client to lead to healing.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

As a Clinical Therapist utilizing the Person Centered Therapeutic Approach, I provide an empathetic, non-judgmental, supportive and compassionate approach to treatment. These approaches foster healing of hurtful and distressing emotional wounds and promotes empowerment and overall improved mental health.
