Parenting can be tough. You wonder if your child will ever grow out of their excessive worries, meltdowns, or tantrums, and you become exhausted and feel guilty for being frustrated with them. The nightly battles with homework and reports from school are wearing you down. The power struggle with your spirited toddler or your strong-willed adolescent may leave you overwhelmed and wondering what you can do differently. Communicating and feeling unified with your partner or caregiver may be difficult or your styles may be different, creating a state of uncertainty or chaos in the home. It is okay to feel overwhelmed. It is also okay to strive for more. You know the potential your child has, and living in a world where you can better help them navigate their development is possible. My goal is to empower you and your child by finding effective parenting strategies and coping skills that work for your family, allowing your child to thrive. I work with children, families, parents, and caregivers to ease the tension that emotions, outbursts, tantrums, and anxiety can bring children and their families. Parents are welcome for parent support as well as for individual therapy to improve their emotional response when triggered by parenting issues. Children are welcome between the ages of 2 and 7 years for Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Let's begin working towards a more peaceful and intentional parenting experience. I welcome all families from all walks of life.
During a first session, clients will have the opportunity to learn more about me in order to feel comfortable that we are a good fit. We will go through your intake paperwork and begin to set goals for your treatment together.
I specialize in working with parents and their young children as well as elementary-aged clients and adolescents.
I work with parents individually who are experiencing their own dysregulation while parenting as well as parents with their children to encourage positive changes in their child's behavior.
I am fully trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) through Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Incorporated. PCIT is an evidence-based treatment designed to help young children (ages 2-7) with behavioral challenges, anxiety, and ADHD by strengthening the parent-child relationship and focusing on positive behaviors to reduce undesired behaviors. In my practice, I guide parents through PCIT by helping them learn and apply positive communication strategies, effective parenting techniques, and emotion-coaching skills. I focus on empowering parents to feel more confident in handling difficult behaviors while fostering a secure and connected relationship with their child. PCIT is a structured yet flexible approach, and I tailor it to each family's unique needs to ensure long-term success.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) through the EMDR Institute, Inc. (EMDRIA), with supplemental training in adapting EMDR for children and adolescents. EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals process distressing memories and reduce emotional distress linked to past experiences. In my practice, I use EMDR primarily with parents and older children who are struggling with anxiety. For parents, EMDR can be a powerful tool to work through anxiety related to parenting, unresolved past experiences, or feelings of overwhelm. For older children, I adapt EMDR techniques to help them process big emotions, anxiety, and challenges related to specific anxieties. I take an integrative approach, ensuring that EMDR is used in a way that aligns with each client’s developmental needs and goals. Whether addressing past experiences that are affecting parenting confidence or helping a child regulate emotions, I tailor EMDR to support my clients in feeling more grounded and empowered.
