This training offered me insight to using interpersonal and CBT therapeutic techniques to work with clients who are struggling with adjustments to parenthood, as well as serious mental health issues that can arise during pregnancy or the postpartum period. In your initial session, I will get a general background from you about the symptoms you've been experiencing, how long they've been present, and what kind of impact the symptoms have on your day to day life. We will discuss what you hope to get out of therapy, and how you know that you are ready to "complete" your therapeutic journey. I also like to take the time in that initial session to provide some education about mental health and treatment.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of successful treatment. After my own pregnancy losses, I struggled with grief, and I experienced Postpartum OCD following the birth of my child. This led me to research mental health in pregnancy and postpartum support for moms. After getting connected with Postpartum Support International, I have increased my perinatal and postpartum treatment training and education. This niche is something I’m very connected to and passionate about.

ACT is founded on the idea that negative and distressing thoughts, feelings, and experiences are unavoidable in life. Through utilizing the skills of ACT, we can begin to accept that our thoughts, feelings, and urges are just that, and we do not have to behave or act upon them. We can accept them at face value without judgement or trying to change them. Once we can accept the distressing thoughts, we can observe them without believing that they are true or fact. At that point in the therapeutic process, we can start to evaluate your own values and adjust what you can control so that you can be accepting of your own behaviors. Lastly, you commit to taking actions that are within your values and that keep you aligned with those values to eliminate further distress in the future.
