Greetings! I am a licensed psychologist in the state of California with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and healthcare industry. I am certified in perinatal mental health and passionate about providing treatment to those experiencing mental health conditions before, during and after pregnancy. I also enjoy working with non-gestational parents. I am well versed in providing both individual and group therapy.
Our first appointment together will be an information gathering session. It is not intended to be a therapy session. I will review your reasons for initiating treatment and discuss your therapy goals. I will share my approach and expectations of you as a participant in treatment. It will be an opportunity for both of us to evaluate if we are a good therapeutic match.
I have treated hundreds of clients with a range of mental health issues since I was an intern in graduate school. I have experience providing individual and group therapy to people across the lifespan in a variety of settings including hospitals, community mental health clinics, private practice and a college counseling center. My ability to develop rapport with clients from session #1 is my biggest strength. Clients seem to appreciate my charisma, energy, passion and sense of humor. Sometimes I think laughter can be the best medicine! As a person with lived experience, I have firsthand knowledge of what it is like to "sit on the couch" as a client. Furthermore, I know that therapy can and does work for those that are motivated, proactive and willing to put in the effort to make changes. My direct, unfiltered, transparent and no-nonsense approach allows me to keep it real during sessions and provide corrective emotional experiences to those I treat.
I work well with individuals that are proactive, motivated to graduate from treatment and willing to accept feedback in a non-defensive manner. I prefer clients that have an adequate support system during their treatment to tolerate time in between appointments. I am best positioned to serve individuals that will implement skills learned in therapy and prioritize self-care in between sessions. Additionally, clients must be comfortable corresponding via message versus a phone call.
I use CBT to help patients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts that contribute to mood-related issues and maladaptive responses to life stressors. It is one's interpretation of situations and events that leads to mental health struggles.
An individual's ability to make progress in therapy is heavily influenced by the therapeutic alliance. A relational approach aims to equip individuals with more adaptive ways of interacting with others to improve the quality of interpersonal relationships and connections.
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) is used to reduce emotional distress by improving interpersonal relationships and social functioning. IPT helps patients with interpersonal conflict and challenging life transitions.
