About me

I’m Laura Massey, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Certified Clinical Supervisor, and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist based in North Carolina. I work with adults 18 and older who are navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, women’s concerns, and the everyday stress that can sometimes feel overwhelming. I offer a compassionate, supportive space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow at your own pace. I believe meaningful change happens through connection, reflection, and the courage to show up for yourself. I also support individuals working through the challenges of addiction, meeting each person with empathy, without judgment, and with a deep belief in their ability to heal and rebuild.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, my focus is on creating a safe and welcoming space where you feel truly seen, heard, and supported. We will walk through the basics, such as confidentiality and how our sessions will work, so you feel grounded and confident moving forward. More importantly, this is your time to talk about what has been weighing on you, what brought you here, and what you are hoping to achieve. I will also share the therapeutic approaches I use and how they can help you move toward meaningful change. This session is not just an introduction. It is the beginning of a partnership built on trust, compassion, and the shared goal of helping you feel better and live more fully.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I strive to meet each client with warmth, empathy, and genuine respect for their unique journey. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and truly heard without judgment or pressure. I believe that healing happens in connection, and I’m here to walk alongside you at your own pace. Our work together is guided by your values, your goals, and what feels meaningful to you. While I draw from evidence based practices, I always tailor my approach to fit your needs in a way that feels natural and supportive. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of supporting clients through many different life experiences, including addiction recovery, emotional challenges, and major life transitions. I bring that experience with care and intention, offering guidance as you create lasting, empowered change on your own terms.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My clients are adults seeking clarity, balance, and a deeper connection to themselves. Many are moving through seasons of change, whether related to recovery, emotional wellbeing, identity, or life direction. They may feel overwhelmed or uncertain, but they are also thoughtful, resilient, and open to growth. It is a privilege to be part of their journey, and I do not take that lightly. Being trusted to walk alongside someone as they reflect, heal, and find their way forward is one of the most meaningful parts of my work. I am here to offer a calm, supportive space where you feel understood, encouraged, and empowered to take the steps that feel right for you.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

In my practice, I incorporate Person-Centered Therapy by creating a supportive and empathetic environment where you feel safe, heard, and respected. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I hold that the core values of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness form the foundation of all effective counseling relationships. By embodying these values, I strive to empower you to gain insight, build resilience, and make meaningful, lasting changes. Our sessions are guided by your goals and what feels most important to you.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I often use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), which is a goal-oriented approach that focuses on your strengths and the solutions that can help you move forward. Rather than concentrating heavily on the problems, we’ll work together to identify what’s already working well in your life and explore practical steps to create positive change. This approach is particularly effective when you’re seeking immediate progress or navigating specific challenges. By highlighting your resilience and exploring future possibilities, we can develop achievable goals and build on your existing strengths.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In our counseling sessions, I may also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT is a practical, goal-oriented approach that focuses on identifying and challenging unhelpful thought patterns. By developing healthier perspectives and coping strategies, we can work together to create meaningful changes in your daily life. This evidence-based method is especially effective in managing anxiety, depression, and other challenges by empowering you with tools to navigate difficult emotions and situations.

Motivational Interviewing

At times, I incorporate Motivational Interviewing (MI) to gently support you in exploring and resolving any uncertainties about making changes in your life. This collaborative and nonjudgmental approach is centered on your personal motivations and goals. Together, we will have open and supportive conversations that celebrate your strengths, clarify what matters most to you, and build your confidence in making positive changes. By listening with empathy and asking thoughtful and encouraging questions, I will walk alongside you in uncovering your own reasons for change and empower you to move forward in a way and at a pace that feels right for you.

Experiential Therapy

I often incorporate elements of existential therapy into our work together, creating space to explore what truly matters to you, your values, your sense of purpose, and the choices that shape your life. Rather than seeking quick fixes, we will slow down and reflect on what gives your life meaning and how you want to show up in the world. This gentle, thoughtful approach blends seamlessly with other methods I use, helping you feel more grounded, self aware, and confident in navigating life’s changes and uncertainties.
