LPCC, 20 years of experience
You deserve to be believed, seen, and heard. My clients appreciate my direct, but gentle approach. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned an M. Ed. from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1998 and a B.S. in counseling from Wayne State College in 1995. I have been in private practice since 2004 and work with adults of all ages.
Our 50-minute sessions start with welcoming you to the session and asking how you are doing. We begin by discussing if there is anything specifically you would like to discuss. If not, we review our plan and discuss how our previous plans went. We strengthen or learn new skills and techniques. I will answer your questions and we make a new plan before you go.
I hear what you are not saying. I believe you because you said it. I accept you as you are, and I will meet you where you're at.
Many of my clients benefit from treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma, and partners of people with autism. Therapy is very emotionally intimate. My clients say I am direct and compassionate. You can expect empathy and a safe, non-judgmental experience. I am in several relationships with people on the autism spectrum, so I have personal and professional experience that I use to support partners in these relationships. If you are motivated to change a difficult situation, I am the right counselor for you.
I am trained in Phases 1 and 2. Where you look affects how you think, feel, and process information. This makes Brainspotting an effective therapy for various issues.
I describe how thoughts influence feelings and behaviors. It gives you a new perspective on their behavior. It lets you examine your thoughts, emotions, and actions.
EMDR is a therapy that helps people heal from distressing or traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation, which is eye movements, taps, or sounds that go back and forth from left to right while you recall parts of the memory. It helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories, so they are stored in a way that feels less intense and less triggering. EMDR takes the emotional charge out of the memory.
