New to Grow
I’m Steven, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I have 7+ years of experience working with all ages of clientele, ranging from ages 12-75. I’ve always had a passion for helping others work toward their goals and I've found that people can get stuck into a rut of "just surviving life" and not living it for a variety of reasons. My goal in being a therapist (and in life) is to help restore the "Joy of Living" back to my clients in a variety of ways within the therapeutic process. On a personal note, I'm 36 years old, got married in 2020, and have two very needy, but lovely cats within my household. I'm a pretty big geek (board games, video games, fantasy sports, etc....) and pretty competitive. I like to give my best in anything that I invest into and that philosophy goes for my Professional relationships as well.
Clients should expect the Intake session to be about half intake and the formal/logistical information that we need to cover. I try to get through this as fast as possible so we can get to the second half of the session which actually feels like therapy. The second half of the session typically is dedicated to getting a brief snapshot of why the client the client's lifestyle, symptoms, personality, and therapy goals in order to help us to hit the ground running in session two and be as practical as possible at helping the client feel like their building momentum in reaching their goals.
It's always awkward to talk about your greatest strengths. I would say generally that clients have given feedback on my ability to be authentic, to be flexible in my approach, and being transparent in stating my strategy of how I think I can best help them in reaching their goals. Clients have also typically enjoyed my ability to be more structured in my approach in the first few sessions which makes it a little easier to be able to speak on topics that can be very hard to put words too.
My goal as a therapist is to help people reclaim their joy, restore their energy, and reconnect with their passions. My hope is to improve clients’ overall quality of life by walking alongside them in their journey to become the very best version of themselves. As a therapist, I work with clients through individual therapy, group therapy, and family/marriage therapy. My areas of passion and expertise include: Processing trauma Building long-lasting motivation to work toward goals Managing anxiety Improving mastery in skills, abilities, and hobbies Improving quality of relationships Supporting major life transitions Minimizing the effects of depression Strengthening thought control
