My name is Joshua Barbour, I am a board Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the state of Massachusetts. I earned my Bachelors and Masters in Social Work both from Bridgewater State University. I work with individuals, families and couples. Having been a social worker for the last decade, I have a true appreciation for the vulnerability and strength it takes for someone to seek support and engage in services.
My expectations for the initial session is to simply build a rapport with the person I am serving. I expect to review the expectations, limitations and barriers to therapy. Gather assessment information and determine whether or not I will be able to meet the client's expectations prior to continuing services.
My greatest strengths as a clinician include my ability to build strong therapeutic rapport, create a nonjudgmental and safe environment, that will best support the client's needs.
My approach to therapy is client centered and I operate with the understanding that everyone is their own best expert "no one can know you better than you". My style is to facilitate a discussion using motivational interviewing and strength-based techniques to best support you in identifying and achieving your own specific goals.

Joshua has been instrumental in starting my journey in mental health. Every session I have been in so far has been educational, and has left me feeling hopeful and positive. What started as being scared to start therapy, has turned into looking forward to every session and being able to spend time and talk with him. He is kind, attentive, constructive, open minded, empowering, inspirational and so much more. I need a lot more than 500 characters to truly say how much I appreciate Joshua!
