About me

Hi, I’m Marvida Lake, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I provide a safe, culturally affirming space for individuals and families—especially those from underserved communities, the LGBTQ+ community, and military backgrounds—to explore their experiences, heal from trauma, and reconnect with their strengths. My therapeutic style is warm, direct, and deeply person-centered. I specialize in family dynamics, identity development, anxiety, depression, and trauma. My approach is goal-focused and holistic, honoring the connection between mind, body, and spirit. I believe that true healing happens when therapy is culturally relevant, collaborative, and grounded in both clinical expertise and authentic human connection. My educational background includes a B.A. in Psychology from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Bowie State University. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC), awarded by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). I’m here to walk alongside you with empathy, cultural humility, and care, supporting your journey toward clarity, wellness, and empowered change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we’ll take time to talk about what brings you to therapy and explore how life is feeling for you right now. We’ll discuss your current challenges, how any symptoms may be impacting your overall wellness, and begin to understand your vision for healing and growth. Together, we’ll start building a therapeutic relationship, set initial goals, and create a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I strive to create a warm, compassionate space where clients feel genuinely supported and safe to show up as they are. One of my core strengths is partnering with clients to identify their goals, explore barriers to wellness, and co-create effective, personalized interventions. I bring a mindful, collaborative approach that encourages self-awareness, resilience, and lasting growth.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with clients who are ready to grow, even if they’re unsure where to start. You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or simply seeking clarity. I offer a compassionate, culturally affirming space where we can explore your story, heal at your pace, and work toward meaningful, lasting change—together.
