Hello there! My name is Elizabeth Taylor and I am in Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have been working as a counselor for the past 9 years, although I have been working in the mental health field for much longer. I began working as a Mental Health Technician when I was an Airman in the United States Air Force in 2007. I worked closely with military men and women returning from deployments and experiencing symptoms of PTSD. I led Anger Management and Stress Management groups. This experience grew my desire to enter into a field that involved helping those struggling with mental health challenges to find healing. I separated from the Air Force and went into grad school. Since graduating, I have worked as a therapist with several different populations, including families involved with the foster care system, adult inmates in a prison, youth in the Juvenile Justice system, adults in community mental health, children in the school setting, and, most recently, adults and children in private practice. I have a passion for working with those suffering with anxiety, OCD, and trauma. I have specialized training in EMDR to help treat trauma, as well as ERP, which has been shown to be the "Gold Standard" treatment for OCD. I am also certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which guides much of my approach to emotion regulation.
Our first session is spent getting to know each other and beginning to build trust, rapport, and a sense of safety. We will explore the client's goals, history of their symptoms, and begin to come up with a plan on how to help them reach their goals.
I believe in the power of rapport of person-centered therapy. I incorporate elements of CBT into much of my treatment approach. I am certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and much of my approach to emotion regulation is rooted in DBT principles. I am trained in EMDR to help process any trauma that may be a barrier to moving forward. I also provide ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) to help treat any OCD symptoms. I individualize treatment methods based on an individual's need and what will work best for their specific situation.
I create a safe space for clients to process what they need to in a non-judgmental environment. I value the importance of helping clients to feel heard and validated. As important as evidence-based treatment approaches are, I believe fostering a therapeutic relationship with my clients is just, if not more, important.
I love working with adults who have been struggling with anxiety, whether rooted in trauma, OCD, ADHD, or intense life stressors. I love partnering with them to help them learn more about their triggers, understand how/why their anxiety is functioning the way it is, and how to best find relief. I strongly believe in helping clients feel empowered to understand the mechanism behind why their anxiety is manifesting the way that it is so that they can respond to it with confidence instead of feeling completely controlled by it.
