Hi, I’m Lehuanani Perez—call me “Nani.” I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Southern California, offering Telehealth sessions for women (18+) throughout the state. I received my Master's in Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy Emphasis from Azusa Pacific University in CA. I have been practicing for the past 7 years. I specialize in working with neurodivergent women, particularly those navigating life after a “late” or “missed” diagnosis of ADHD.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we’ll take time to talk about how you’ve been feeling recently and explore some of the “whys” behind those feelings. I’ll ask questions to get a sense of what life looks and feels like for you. This session is about information gathering, building a connection and giving me a better understanding of how to support you moving forward. Every individual is beautifully unique, and I believe in listening first rather than assuming I know what will work best.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a woman who was "late" diagnosed, I know how isolating and overwhelming it can feel to try to piece together a world that often wasn’t built with your brain in mind. That’s why I use a blend of therapeutic approaches (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Strength Based, Client Centered, Neurodivergent Affirming Practice, etc) tailoring our work to meet you exactly where you are. Together, we’ll explore tools and strategies that honor your unique needs, strengths, and experiences.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I specialize in working with women (18+) who have received a “late” or “missed” diagnosis of ADHD. Many of my clients spent years feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or labeled as lazy, emotional, or “too much” before discovering the true nature of their beautifully wired minds. My focus is on helping women navigate the emotional and practical challenges that often accompany a delayed diagnosis. From untangling internalized self-criticism, dealing with the loss of the life they could have lived if their diagnosis had come earlier, to finding ADHD-friendly strategies that honor your unique strengths. I’m here to provide a supportive, compassionate space where you can begin to thrive in your authenticity.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT, or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, is a really helpful approach for people with ADHD. It focuses on building flexibility in how you think, managing emotions in a healthy way, and taking actions that line up with what truly matters to you. ADHD can come with challenges like impulsivity, trouble focusing, and being hard on yourself. ACT helps you handle those struggles differently—so instead of feeling stuck or overwhelmed, you can learn to work with your brain rather than against it and move toward the life you want.

Compassion Focused

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a great approach for ADHD, especially if you have been diagnosed later in life, because it emphasizes self-compassion, which can be especially helpful in addressing common challenges such as shame, frustration, and self-criticism that often come with ADHD.

Feminist

Feminist Therapy can be a really empowering approach for women with ADHD because it focuses on understanding the impact of societal expectations and gender roles on mental health. This approach works well with ADHD because it looks at how external pressures—like traditional views of productivity, success, or behavior—can negatively affect those with ADHD, particularly in a world that often prioritizes certain ways of thinking and working.

Eclectic

Eclectic therapy is a flexible and integrative approach that combines techniques and strategies from different therapeutic modalities based on what works best for the client’s unique needs. For ADHD clients, an eclectic approach is particularly effective because it can draw from a variety of tools to address the diverse challenges ADHD can present, like attention issues, impulsivity, emotional regulation difficulties, and low self-esteem.
