My name is Belinda Rivas I am a Licensed Professional counselor who resides in Edinburg Texas. In addition to my specialty in mental health and wellness, I specialize in disability issues. I am a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, School of Rehabilitation Services and Counseling. I am a strong advocate and believe that with the rights supports, resources, and opportunities everyone can achieve a improved quality life and satisfaction.
During my first session I will complete an intake identifying strengths, barriers, problems or needs, etc.. and establishing goals and objectives.
I believe that what sets me apart is that I go above and beyond. I have a holistic view of my clients and in some cases offer ongoing supports.
I use Solution-focused therapy (SFT) which is a goal-oriented, collaborative, and optimistic approach to psychotherapy that focuses on creating solutions to problems rather than analyzing the cause of the problem.
I also use CBT which places an emphasis on helping individuals learn to be their own therapists. Through exercises in the session as well as “homework” exercises outside of sessions, patients/clients are helped to develop coping skills, whereby they can learn to change their own thinking, problematic emotions, and behavior.
