Hello, my name is Marcie Williams. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and the founder of Affirming Autism, LLC. I have more than 5 years of experience helping clients with a variety of mental health issues ranging from situational stress to severe mental illness. I have worked extensively with clients who struggle with addiction both one-on-one and in groups. Having firsthand experience parenting autism, I have a particular interest in serving the autism community and have spent considerable time educating myself on the current issues affecting this population and their caregivers.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During your first full session with me, usually 60-90 minutes, we will take an in-depth look at specific challenges you are facing. This will help me to develop a tailored plan that meets you and/or your family's needs.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have witnessed firsthand the impact social constructs have on the mental health of autistic individuals and consequently their families. I am here to listen, validate your experience, and to collaborate with you to figure out what works best for you and your family. I have extensive experience both professionally and personally with individuals struggling with addiction. I have worked with client's who prefer all types of solutions to overcoming addiction, including those using medication assisted treatment under the supervision of a doctor. When you are ready, please schedule a free, 15-minute consultation with me to see if we might be a good fit.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify belief systems or patterns of thinking that might be causing maladaptive coping strategies. My style centers around helping clients better understand their emotion regulation systems so they can improve self-compassion, learn more effective ways of coping, and in turn build a more positive self-identity.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques have assisted my clients in learning how to be more present and engaged in their lives. This helps them to better manage things like ruminating and/or dysregulated emotions, things that keep us from spending valuable time with others and doing the things we enjoy. DBT strategies have also helped my clients find new ways to effectively communicate and resolve conflict, which helps them improve their self-esteem and confidence.

Motivational Interviewing

Change is hard! When a client comes to me stressed, overwhelmed, and wanting to make a change but not sure where to start, I use Motivational Interviewing to help them figure that out. It also helps me to understand where my clients are in the process of change. Together we confirm motivations and identify personal strengths that help them reinforce self-efficacy to make wanted changes.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

This approach focuses on solutions rather than the problems. It is a person-centered, positive, practical, strengths-based approach to therapy. The emphasis is on what can be changed. The focus is on the future, not the past, and is intended to be brief.
