I have 20 years of experience working with adults and adolescents from all walks of life. My expertise is in substance abuse, depression, relationships, family concerns, trauma and PTSD. I know sometimes people go through difficult times. They think something’s wrong with them because they have problems. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having difficulties is part of the human experience. Many people pretend they’re okay when they’re not. They keep all their pain and suffering to themselves. They’re afraid if they tell the truth, they’ll be abandoned and rejected. Therapy can open the door for you to stop pretending you’re “fine.” You can find the freedom to be you. Therapy can help you to come out of isolation and start living again. You'll start to feel better because you're showing the real you and you're connecting with someone. Your therapist can be a “loving witness to your pain.”

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I’m easy-going and interactive. I believe we all need to become secure in ourselves and become authentic. I don't spend time being "politically correct” because that is not the real you. In our first session, I'll get some background information and we'll go over the issues you're most concerned about. Then, we'll hit the ground running. We'll develop treatments goals and make a flexible treament plan to guide us. If you feel the people in your life don’t get you, well, I do. I can help you feel heard and understood.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strength is in my ability to connect with clients. I don't worry about the small stuff. I want you to feel comfortable and safe in your sessions. I'm good at seeing a people;s strengths. I know how to build on your assets and build a strong foundation in your life. I care about helping clients get better. I've worked in a variety of settings with clients of all ages and cultures. They have taught me so much about what works for them and what doesn't. I'm invested in helping you get better. I want to build a mutually beneficial relationship. I don't believe in the thrapist coming from some high place, looing down on the client. I listen to what your goals are for therapy, not what I think you should want. You will be validated and supported by me. I can help you stay on the right path. I can be firm if it's neccesary but I am always compassionate.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is the foundation of my practice. In order to improve unwanted thoughts and behaviors your thinking needs to change. CBT is an effective therapy for clients to significantly improve their day to day functioning and quality of life. With CBT clients learn to change their destructive thinking patterns. They learn more effective ways of coping with their emotions and have a reduction in negative behaviors. They learn problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations. They develop a greater sense of confidence in their own abilities. Clients begin to recognize the distortions in their thinking that often are creating their problems.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a big part of my work as it is based on respectful, empowering exchanges between therapist and client. It is a collaborative effort that allows for clients to come to their own conclusions. The client is allowed to make their own decisions, in their own time. The therapist does not impose their opinions on clients. The therapuetic relationship is not based on the therapist being in the "expert" role. Sessions are based on compassion, mutual understanding and positivity. MI gives clients the confidence to take action. It helps clients examine their ambivilence to changing. Ambivilence is a normal reaction to uncertainty that everyone experiences when thinking about change, even if the change is for the better. MI helps to strengthen the commitment to change. Often, we know we want to change but conflicting feelings come up around making the changes. MI gives the space and time to allow clients to explore their feelings about changing. MI allow the client to explore their thoughts and values on change.
