Hi, I’m Deborah Kirkland, a Licensed Professional Counselor providing virtual therapy for adults in Texas and Arkansas. I help people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and social phobia find relief and regain a sense of control. With advanced training in ACT, Trauma-Focused CBT/CPT, and EMDR, I use evidence-based techniques to support lasting change. With nine years of experience in a non-profit trauma center, I understand how overwhelming life can feel. But you don’t have to face it alone. Whether you're battling constant worry, carrying past trauma, or feeling stuck, I’m here to help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and a greater sense of fulfillment.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other in a relaxed, judgment-free space. I’ll ask about your background, current challenges, and what brought you to therapy, but there’s no pressure—you can share at your own pace. We’ll also talk about your goals and what you hope to gain from our work together. Most importantly, this session is about making sure you feel heard, supported, and comfortable asking any questions about the therapy process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I create a space where clients feel truly heard and understood while helping them build resilience and effective coping strategies for anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and social phobia. My approach is collaborative—I meet you where you are and guide you toward meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you. Above all, I’m committed to providing a warm, non-judgmental environment where you feel safe to be yourself, explore challenges, and work toward lasting well-being.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I help adults struggling with PTSD, Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Social Anxiety, and major life transitions. Many of my clients feel stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by past experiences and are looking for practical ways to heal, manage emotions, and regain control. I also support late-diagnosed autistic adults in navigating sensory sensitivities, social interactions, and self-acceptance. My goal is to help you build resilience, understand yourself better, and create a more fulfilling, authentic life.

My treatment methods

Trauma-Focused CBT

I specialize in trauma-focused counseling, providing a safe space to process experiences, build coping strategies, and foster healing. Using evidence-based methods, I help clients manage trauma responses, develop self-compassion, and regain a sense of control and empowerment. My approach is personalized to each client’s unique needs and pace.

EMDR

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients process and heal from trauma. EMDR involves using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to help reprocess distressing memories, allowing clients to shift from negative beliefs and emotions toward a more adaptive perspective. Through this approach, clients can reduce the emotional charge of traumatic memories, integrate them more fully, and find greater peace and emotional balance

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

In sessions, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients build psychological flexibility by focusing on accepting their thoughts and feelings rather than avoiding them. We work together to identify core values and commit to actions that align with those values, even in the face of difficult emotions or challenges. Through mindfulness and cognitive defusion techniques, clients learn to observe their thoughts without judgment and take meaningful steps toward a more fulfilling life.
