Hello, my name is Steve Queen. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Clinical Supervisor. I have been practicing for almost twenty-five years. I have been married for 35 years and have two adult children. I share that because as much as my degrees, licenses and training are highly important. I also believe my life experience has deeply formed and informed my counseling style and clinical choices. It would be my privilege to help you navigate whatever situation or struggle you may be facing today.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session we will start with introductions then begin to process what is going on that brings you into therapy at this point. We will create an environment that allows you to feel heard and safe, where you can move towards accessing your own potential. I’ll also explain a bit about how therapy works, including my approach and how we might structure our sessions going forward. We'll talk about your goals for therapy, and I’ll help you clarify what you hope to gain from our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my greatest strengths are empathy and relatability. I would also say I am a seasoned therapist with over 20 years of experience supporting individuals, couples and families through a wide range of challenges. Throughout my career, I have worked with clients facing various life struggles, providing compassionate, evidence-based therapy tailored to their unique needs.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I am a deep believer in the importance of developing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship with my clients. It is paramount to me that clients feel safe and accepted, I then utilize the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard, to help clients access their own potential.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I also like to utilize Mindfulness with cognitive therapy, the aim is to help people learn to relate to their thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations in a different way. The goal is to help people recognize and respond to negative thoughts and low moods in a skillful way, rather than avoiding or reacting to them automatically.

Grief Therapy

I have been an Advanced Bereavement Facilitator for many years. It has not been my choice but my privilege to join individuals and families as they have journeyed through life's most difficult losses. The love that we have for the people in our lives does not die as their physical life ends. That is the dilemma that grief counseling wrestles with and seeks to understand and cope with.
