I'm Alia, a therapist with 20 years' experience. I've worked with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, abuse, emotional issues, college mental health, religious trauma, and more. My passion? Cultivating self-love, self-forgiveness, and self-compassion, alongside treating other mental health challenges. Creating a loving relationship with self builds the most resilient foundation for healing. You don't have to go it alone, even though that might feel more safe. Reach out and schedule a free 15 minute test drive. I sometimes have hours outside of those listed, please contact me through Grow Therapy for information.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session or two, we'll be getting to know each other. I will be asking you many questions about your background, your processes, and about what brought you to counseling. We'll figure out how you like to work, what you want to get, and BE, on the other side of counseling.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My clients describe my strengths as being warm, authentic, humorous, intuitive, with a strong ability to see the unseen. Typically, I'm able pick out the right puzzle pieces to create a coherent picture, which helps clients develop a deeper and more intimate relationship for themselves. I have so much compassion for this "being human" that we're all experiencing, and this deeply informs my work. I've had training in different areas and tend to be eclectic in my approach, drawing from different areas depending on the person and their specific situation. Therapies used: Polyvagal, insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, trauma informed (certified), transpersonal, reparenting techniques, meditation and mindfulness therapies. I may also draw from ACT, DBT, and narrative therapies, and energy psychology.

My treatment methods

Polyvagal Therapy

Polyvagal therapy is a holistic approach that focuses on regulating the nervous system to reduce anxiety, stress, and trauma-related symptoms. By understanding the body's responses to stress through the vagus nerve, this therapy aims to restore a sense of safety and connection. Through techniques such as breathing exercises, mindfulness, and body-awareness practices, polyvagal therapy helps individuals build resilience and establish a stronger mind-body connection, promoting healing and emotional well-being.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, goal-oriented therapy that helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors, CBT equips you with practical strategies to overcome challenges and improve your mental health. It empowers you to develop healthier coping skills, manage stress, and achieve your goals by reshaping how you perceive and respond to life's difficulties.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed therapy is a compassionate approach that acknowledges the impact of past traumatic experiences on your present life. It creates a safe environment where your feelings and experiences are validated without re-triggering distress. By focusing on understanding how trauma affects thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, this therapy helps you heal, regain a sense of control, and develop coping skills to navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and empowerment.

Compassion Focused

For the past 5 years, I've worked with clients who have issues with self love, forgiveness and compassion. Building this (typically, but not always, alongside other challenges) creates an adaptive and resilient foundation on which to heal.
