In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then I'll give you a choice. Some women are more comfortable diving right in and sharing their challenges, while others feel better if I ask them questions to get started. Either way, it's up to you. We'll cover any symptoms you may be having, the challenges and struggles you're facing, and discuss what you've tried up to this point ti find relief. We'll also talk about what's going well in your life, who's a part of your support system, and what you want for your future. All of this helps me to create a plan that's tailored to you; a roadmap for us to work through in follow-up sessions to help you get to where you want to be.
I am a mom of five, a stillbirth survivor, and a perinatal mental health certified clinician who works with women in all stages of the perinatal period. I can help you manage postpartum depression, navigate pregnancy anxiety after loss, work through relational issues and the transition to parenthood, and help you navigate through grief after perinatal loss.
God cares about your mental health! For that reason, applying Biblical principles to help us manage and process our mental health challenges is important. I’ve seen the profound change that occurs when people realize that psychotherapy and Biblical truth are not mutually exclusive; God's plan for your life includes your mental health, too. I use Christian counseling to help clients process their challenges in light of Biblical truths so that they can become the people that God has created them to be.
I use CBT to help clients recognize how their thoughts, feelings, and actions influence each other. From there, we can use that knowledge to alter how you think, which will change how you behave- leading to less stress and anxiety in your life.
A lot of the challenges people face are because they don't have the information or the skills to make choices that are beneficial. I use psychoeducation to teach clients coping skills, communication skills, and to help them understand their own minds so that, moving forward, they will be able to make better choices. It also helps them understand the people around them- giving them the ability to respond differently, which leads to better outcomes relationally.
