Greetings! I'm Dr. McCannon and I have been in clinical work for the last 15 years with the bulk of my tenure being spent working with children/adolescents and families. I am a lover of life who places special emphasis on honoring the humanity in ourselves as well as others. In spaces where we allow ourselves and others to be human, we make room for authenticity- and we grow. As such, I work with clients to learn to love and accept themselves as a platform for authentic and fruitful connections with others.
I often say that no session will be as directive or as therapist-led as the initial session. There, I will ask several questions (some may feel repetitive) about the client's past, present, and hopes for the future. I will share my clinical style and informed consent with the client, and give them an opportunity to ask any questions they may have about the therapeutic process and our therapeutic alliance. The main goal of the initial session is to further assess fit, but also to gather background data and establish a launchpad for our future work.
Fundamentally, I believe we all have the tools to create the changes we want to see in ourselves. However, we all benefit from having a second set of eyes to help us as we unpack, process, repack, and forge that new path. This is how therapy can be helpful- in illuminating the blind spots we didn’t even know were there. Acting as an active observer is one of my favorite postures as a clinician and also my perceived greatest strength. In working collaboratively- the client and I create a safe space to learn from one another; to explore their lives, their relationships, their thoughts, their patterns and process them in a setting that is non-judgmental and rooted in fostering understanding. We all deserve a space like that.
Adler is heavily focused on the individual experience within a larger system which is a lens I really appreciate and lean into.
All work begins with and centers around the client, their perspective, their experience.
Culture is the thread through which we are all interwoven. It is a very MAJOR part of the way I work with clients and perceive the world.
