I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Appalachian State University, focused on individuals and family systems. I have lived in North Carolina all my life and resonate greatly with the people who inhabit this beautiful state, wanting to give back to those seeking mental health support. We all experience grief in our day-to-day lives. We could be feeling grief regarding a chance not taken, a divorce, the loss of a relationship, the loss of a pet, the loss of a loved one, the loss/damage of belongings, the loss of trust in the world, experiencing holidays without someone special, or having to move. We will begin by giving space for the losses and adjustments you have experienced throughout your life, ensuring each version of you can release these emotions and process them in a safe space. I will add helpful interventions, techniques, and educational tools to provide additional support and deeper understanding.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. My goal in an initial session is to learn a little bit about all of you, this gives me a solid foundation to work off of as we progress in our therapeutic relationship. We will utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, grief therapy techniques, psychoeducation, supportive counseling, maintain/create effective coping skills, practice stress reduction habits, and honor rituals/memorials as needed/wanted. I will move from moment to moment with you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is that I will be your cheerleader. When you feel isolated, confused, or overwhelmed, I will shine light and provide space and consistency. I believe in gentle pushes when needed. I will give space to process emotions, learn new therapeutic interventions, and work with you to create direct action or action goals that you, as the client, will enact in your life that honor your wants/needs. These combined can make for meaningful, lasting, positive change.

My treatment methods

Grief Therapy

I have been a grief therapist for the past three years. I have hospice and palliative care experience, providing bereavement support and counseling to those who have sustained a death or non-death loss. It has been helpful for every client I have served, regardless of the number and severity of their losses. I create a space focused on releasing emotions, providing normalization/validation for grief symptoms, maintaining/forming positive coping skills, and sharing grief education/interventions. Utilizing these allows all my clients to honor their grief and to have support in navigating this new world. I will adapt to whatever my client needs, providing them with tools each session to increase their understanding of their grief symptoms and get them to a place where they experience more moments of joy while honoring their connection to their loved one(s).

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

This therapeutic technique pairs perfectly with grief therapy. I use it with clients to identify and change negative thought patterns. It helps clients to understand their thoughts and beliefs about their losses (death and non-death) and how they affect their emotions and behaviors. During therapy sessions, clients will learn to recognize irrational or harmful thoughts, replacing them with more balanced and constructive ones. This technique not only helps in alleviating the immediate symptoms of grief, such as sadness and anxiety but also equips individuals with long-term coping strategies focused on healthier emotional responses to loss.

Psychoeducation

Grief psychoeducation focuses on providing clients with information about the grieving process and educational tools that will allow them to understand their grief more deeply. The goal is to normalize and validate the clients' experience and reduce feelings of isolation and confusion. By understanding the stages and symptoms of grief, individuals can better recognize and validate their emotions. I will never tell you how to grieve, for each grief journey moves differently, but I will let you know if you are grieving in a healthy or unhealthy way. If you are grieving in an unhealthy way, I will move with you to reduce unsafe symptoms/actions and get you to a healthier space with your grief.
