LMHC, 5 years of experience
New to Grow
I am a mental health counselor licensed in Florida with 5 years of work experience. I have experience in helping clients from all walks of life; these include stress, anxiety, anger management, motivation, self esteem, confidence, depression, and coping with life changes. I have served in numerous mental health settings like hospitals, private practice, treatment centers, and community mental health agencies. During these moments, I have worked with numerous populations such as children, adolescents, young adults, older adults, and elders (the elderly). My therapeutic approach will continuously maintain a client-centered approach with subtle confrontational crossroads. This means that during the process we will have to monitor and check for willingness and accountability, due to its importance in the changing process. I believe that the client-counselor relationship works best with mutual respect, clarity, and compassion. Treatment with me will be tailored to meet your unique and specific needs. My existence with you in the therapeutic space is to allow you the space to grow, experience nurturing, and reevaluate your understood identities. In life, taking the first step can be scary and uncomfortable. Let me remind you that seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage, and if you have made it this far...I do believe that you have what it takes to get there. I am here to support you in the process, watch you grow, and stare amazed at the new awakened being that you will become. Be blessed and release the stress!
During the first session, the client and therapist will engage in addressing one's understanding of therapy, suicidal and homicidal ideation history, the conditions of a safe-space in therapy, treatment goals, and the direction of future sessions . In addition, confidentiality and duty to warn will be addressed as well.
As a therapist, my greatest strength is my authenticity during treatment. I am here to actively listen, with empathy, to what has been causing the client distress and working with them to find the best solution. I utilize a direct approach with my clients in order to help them foster a better understanding of the benefits of accountability. I have experienced a very unique and eventful life that has allowed me the opportunity to hold space for a variety of individuals and lifestyles. Summation: "I'm a therapist to everyone, but not the therapist for everyone"
The "ideal clients" are less of preference, but more of a necessity for psychotherapeutic growth. I encourage all my future clients to assess their ability to be open-minded and be willing to explore the duality of objectivity and subjectivity that one struggles with in life. I also encourage that my potential partners in this alliance understand that speaking your mind and heart is not weakness, it is a strength in therapy. Overall, coming into this space requires individuals to work not only with the therapist, but with themselves. **And please... do the homework (me-work) ***
I have utilized this orientation as the foundation of my psychotherapeutic practice for half a decade. Person-centered focuses on actively listening to the client from a non-judgmental perspective. It requires the clinician to exercise empathy and unconditional positive regard with the client. As such, the client feels completely heard and understood by the therapist from their worldview and the perspective of relevant events.
I have extensive experience with using this orientation to aid me in observing the relational standing of the client's cognitive/conscious and behavioral congruence in their life. With this approach, the client and therapist work together to inventory and/or review their thoughts, feelings, and actions. By doing so, the therapist aids in identifying inconsistencies that the client may not have been previously aware of in their daily practices (i.e cognitive distortions).
This treatment tool is used to aid in educating the client on new materials, perspectives, practices, and ideologies to better aid them in the journey of self-reflection and self-awareness.
This theoretical approach is one of my favorites in aiding the client to become more self-aware via mindfulness. With this approach the client will be able to explore their ability to regulate their emotions, adopt distress tolerance skills, and learn interpersonal effectiveness. I have used this orientation to aid individuals and groups in therapy.
