My name is Yvonne Muzquiz and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for 23 years. I specialize with children/teens and parenting and help families heal and grow together. I incorporate somatic exercises into therapy, bringing awareness to the brain and how it responds to stress, grief, anxiety and trauma. Education is key! I am client focused and providing support is the essence of my psychoeducation.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first meeting will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions and feel more at ease. Together, we will create a plan that supports your needs and helps your family thrive. This decision is yours, and I’m happy that you’re taking this important step. I am here to support you, and we can navigate these challenges together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My experience working with children and families in different settings and seeing positive outcomes. My ability to nurture the relationship and at the same time, challenge you to reach your potential. Having individuals think outside the box from traditional forms of therapy.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have had the privilege of working with children and adolescents in alternative schools, juvenile probation departments, disaster/crisis recovery, and psychiatric hospitals. My goal is to help parents and their children build healthier relationships through play therapy activities, parent training, and psychoeducation. I also enjoy supporting collage aged students 18-25 who are transitioning and adjusting to a new life or entering the work field. I also like using my Somatic Experiencing skills which I have used in the past helping people with trauma through anxiety, disasters, crisis experiences.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I believe the therapeutic relationship should empower the person to take ownership of their mental well-being. My role is to assist in that process.

Polyvagal Therapy

This therapeutic approach emphasizes the role the autonomic nervous system plays in regulating our health and behavior. I use polyvagal exercises and resources to restore wellness to people who have experienced life changing events. I have used the mind-body approach to help people work through trauma, anxiety, burnout and simply bringing an overall understanding and awareness to the body.

Child Parent Psychotherapy

Bridging the gap and building better relationships between parent and child/adolescents through play therapy exercises and parent training / education.
