Hello ~ my name is Tammy Piotter and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based out of New York state. I've been working in the field for 15 years and enjoy the opportunities to connect with others in a meaningful way. Coming along beside them to begin the process of creating the life they desire and deserve is my personal goal. My experience in working with individuals and groups with moderate to severe diagnoses allows me to connect with diverse others with compassion.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our initial session, clients can expect to feel welcomed and heard. Unconditional positive regard is one of my values. Also, I provide active listening to assist me in building an understanding of them as individuals so we can identify their needs. I truly enjoy getting to know my clients.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Strengths that I embody as a provider include; a natural tendency to provide openness, which seems to allow clients to feel unjudged and safe in sharing their stories.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is one of my primary modalities of treatment. MI allows me to connect with my clients on a personal level and jointly explore what matters most to them. Identifying the why behind goals and needs can be challenging yet invigorating on the wellness journey in therapy. My experiences with this method include providing group, online and individual therapy sessions.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution Focused treatment gives me the opportunity to begin to jointly chart a path early on in the treatment process that identifies the desired end results and primary needs of the individual(s). This modality helps to create a clearer foundation for achieving goals and desires.

Faith based therapy

One of the options that I've found supportive in treatment is exploring the individual's faith and spiritual beliefs, and how they may be helpful on their journey to mental wellness. Spirituality is sometimes an overlooked opportunity to draw out and connect or reconnect the client with their faith of choice. I've had the privilege of leading group classes on Spirituality for many years in an intensive outpatient facility. Individuals often expressed gratitude in being able to add and utilize their faith in their recovery process.

Psychoanalytic

My use of this method allows me to take some time to better understand the individual(s) I am working with. Building awareness and exploring how their current concerns or explore prior situations that may be impacting their abilities to manage symptoms of concern or achieve desired goals.
