Priscilla Liriano-Tuftan is a BIPOC licensed clinical social worker who understands how mental health impacts young adults, seniors and working class families. She has worked in NY as a social worker in preventive services, community programs, but the majority of her career has been spent working in hospitals closely with doctors, nurses, researchers, social workers, various clinicians and clerical staff. She managed a dementia outpatient program and was clinical director of a children's evaluation center. As a mom and military wife, she also understands the pressure of balancing work & family demands and taking risks of leaving big institutes to become an entrepreneur.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we'll start with checking in with you to see if you have any questions, concerns and expectations of therapy. I'll then guide you through some questions to get to know who you are, what you've been through, what's happening now and what are your biggest concerns.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked in healthcare for over 10 years, I've developed skills and the understanding of helping adults, LGBTQIA+ communities, and families, struggling with burnout, anxiety/depression, coping with past childhood events, marital and family conflict, and caring for an ill loved one. Sessions with me can be emotional, a good laugh but most times a look into your soul with a nice cup of coffee or tea and if you're a new mom, your little one too.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I am EMDR trained and working on advanced certification to improve my skills with helping individuals working in healthcare heal traumas related to helping save lives and any past childhood traumas that are triggered in their current lives. I use EMDR with adults who feel stuck in therapy or experience continuous disturbance from anxiety, depression or PTSD that get in the way of enjoying their work, family and social life.

Psychodynamic

I use this method of therapy as the foundation of my approach to working with client's. I do this by encouraging client's to talk about their past and current experiences and help them make connections to their behaviors and habits. This helps clients understand themselves more and increase their self-awareness outside of sessions which often leads them to feel more empowered.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Although my approach to therapy is integrative of multiple treatment modalities that are customized to each person I treat, I often use CBT to help my client's understand how their thoughts and feelings lead to how they behave in life. I use this method to help them breakdown any negative thoughts and feelings into more positive and life fulfilling thinking. We do this together with a combination of talk therapy and doing exercises in session and in between sessions.
