Parents of children with special needs are often misunderstood, and for over a decade I have been their advocates in the healthcare industry. I have over seventeen years of experience in various aspects of mental health, and for the last decade has been helping parents of children with special needs. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am also the parent of four children with special needs. With a work history including residential treatment, outpatient, and community based mental health, I bring a wealth of clinical knowledge to my profession. The number one indicator of successful therapy is therapeutic rapport. Since the relationship between therapist and client is so vital I begin the therapeutic process with it. I want to work with you to build a personal connection conducive for healing. Therapy is a journey where you are in the drivers seat, yet never alone; it is a team effort. I want you to leave every session with the knowledge and desire to try newly learned skills and techniques between sessions. Everyone deserves a place to feel heard and valued, and while I have recently focused on families with special needs children, my many years in the field of mental health has made me a wealth of knowledge for anyone looking for assistance in making positive changes. Let me help you get back to the joy of parenting and living in general. It is time to take care of you so you can take care of yourself and/or those you love.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together I will start by asking some routine questions. This helps me to get to know you better and build that therapeutic rapport which I feel is vital to successful therapy outcomes. I do like to leave some time at the end to focus on your top priority. I always want people to leave that first session with something to work on to help them begin the change process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strength is unconditional positive regard. My therapeutic milieu is a safe place free of judgement for clients to share and gain insight.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

The therapeutic rapport is the leading indicator of successful therapy. I have found that when the therapy session is a positive non-judgmental place to share it helps build that rapport. If you do not feel comfortable sharing in therapy then it is hard to make progress, so to me this is the most important part.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on the theory that distress is caused by inaccurate thoughts and if we shift our thinking we can change how we feel. I have been utilizing this technique in my private practice for years. I have found it to be a very effective method.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy focuses on getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. And often this is where we see the most growth. Trying to fight with things that we cannot change causes a lot of emotional distress. When we learn to accept those things that we cannot change and learn to sit with the uncomfortable feelings they bring we can grow. I have been helping people get comfortable with the uncomfortable for years in my private practice.
