Hello! My name is Lee Owen, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) providing virtual therapy in Tennessee. My focus is serving young adults and adults navigating life transitions. I believe that the emotions we are most tempted to run away from– fear, grief, anger– exist to tell us about the kind of life we want. I help clients learn to identify and listen to their emotions rather than being overwhelmed or shut down. I use evidence-based approaches to treat depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, and eating disorders. We will also work together to increase mindfulness and self-compassion and strengthen the relationships in your life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. I try to end each session with concrete take-aways you can apply over the next week to practice and develop skills.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I often use the therapy session for you to get hands-on practice doing something you struggle with in your ‘real life’. This can be activities like applying mindfulness and body awareness during session or roleplaying to prep for a difficult conversation you need to have with a family member. I’m dedicated to fostering deep, meaningful connections with my clients. With a compassionate and non-judgmental approach, I aim to create a safe space for individuals to bring their whole selves to therapy. I have been often told that there is a presence about me that makes folks more open to sharing.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with adults who understand that they need to do something different. My clients are eager to feel better but they may not see a path from here to there. They often feel stuck, anxious and depressed about the direction of their lives and relationships right now and want better for themselves. As a member of the LGBT community, I have a special expertise in serving LGBTQ clients as well as poly and kink communities. Whether you are navigating a complicated political climate, reducing shame and growing in pride and self-acceptance, or exploring new pronouns or identity labels, I will be with you all the way!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is centered around helping clients identify and understand the specific thoughts and beliefs that lead to certain emotions and behaviors. By focusing on these patterns, I guide clients in recognizing the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and actions. In our work together, clients learn to pinpoint the exact triggers that contribute to unhelpful behaviors and break out of old patterns. I tailor CBT techniques to each client's unique needs, incorporating practical exercises like journaling, behavioral activation, and mindfulness to foster self-awareness and emotional resilience.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT focuses on balancing acceptance and change. I incorporate its core skills—mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness—into my practice. I work collaboratively with clients to develop tools for managing intense emotions, reducing impulsive behaviors, and creating meaningful connections with others. Please note that I do not offer a full DBT program with skills groups and phone coaching, only individual therapy sessions informed by the principles of DBT.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I specialize in mindfulness in therapy, a powerful approach that helps clients develop greater self-awareness, reduce stress, and grow in self-acceptance. Drawing from evidence-based techniques, I guide individuals in cultivating present-moment awareness and acceptance of their thoughts and emotions. In my practice, I incorporate mindfulness exercises such as guided meditation, breathwork, and grounding techniques to help clients manage anxiety, depression, and trauma.
