I am a licensed psychologist based in Minnesota. I received my Master's degree from Fort Hays State University and have been practicing for over 30 years. I help adults struggling with life transitions, trauma, health issues, anxiety, and depression to learn coping strategies, be more aware of things that impact their mood both positively and negatively, and to identify ways to create a sense of meaning and purpose.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will start with brief introductions then delve into the things that are feeling most challenging for you right now. We will talk some about your history so that I can more fully understand you and will create a specific plan that addresses your goals and what you would like to accomplish in therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My years of experience have allowed me to develop ways to help you identify underlying causes of challenges you are experiencing and to cope effectively with them. Strategies and approaches used in therapy sessions will be tailored to your needs and personality, leading to measurable progress.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT focuses on how our thoughts, feelings, and behavior are linked and impact each other. CBT helps us to identify and challenge core beliefs and recognize patterns of thoughts and behaviors that might interfere with daily functioning. I have used CBT for over 30 years to treat anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, anger, OCD, and substance abuse.

EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced based therapy that helps a person to process traumatic experiences without experiencing highly intense emotions and bodily responses. It helps to reorganize how and where memories are stored in the brain, allowing past events to feel less intusive or bothersome. EMDR assisists in reducing nightmare, flashbacks, scary memories and bodily sensations associated with a traumatic event. I have used EMDR for the past 7 years to help address trauma, PTSD and anxiety. EMDR allows a person to be able to talk more easily about a distressing event and not become highly triggered or emotional.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Therapy combines mindfulness practices with stress management techniques and includes meditation, awareness of the present moment and taking a non-judgmental attitude/approach. I have used this approach to treat anxiety, depression, chronic pain and other medical conditions over the past several years.
