I'm Kirk Henderson, and I provide therapy using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I have years of experience treating Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Depression, Anxiety, Phobias, Trauma, and Grief. I help clients navigate life transitions such as career change, divorce, and staying in a difficult marriage successfully. I work with couples experiencing marital conflict to find a new place of intimacy and connectedness. Having a background in pastoral ministry, I am also able to provide faith-based interventions for those clients who require a spiritual dynamic in the counseling experience. Please feel free to call me with any questions, or to set up an initial consultation, and I will be glad to assist you in your journey towards peace and wholeness, and relationship success.
The first session is all about finding out more about you. I will ask you questions about many aspects of your life, and inquire about any current stressors you might be experiencing. I will want to be sure that I understand your goals for therapy, and will tell you more about the approaches that I use based on your specific needs.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address depression and anxiety symptoms. CBT helps you to identify the different thoughts that are causing you stress, fear, and sadness. I will help you identify these thoughts, and together, we can challenge these thoughts and restructure them to be healthy, positive, and accurate. I use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) for traumatic experiences. Many of my clients prefer to simply use Talk Therapy. They want a place to process their thoughts and feelings and are looking for an insightful response from a professional or someone to help them think through difficult decisions and significant life changes like divorce, separation, new career path, and social concerns.
I love my clients. I am caring, compassionate, and non-judgmental. You will find your therapy experience to be one of safety and growth. I will be invested in your healing process, and am intuitive, encouraging, and strength-based in therapy. This means that I help you understand your unique personality, your strengths, and how you function in various settings. If you are experiencing trauma, whether from childhood or adulthood, you will benefit greatly from EMDR.
