Do you feel worn down by the relentless events of your life? Are you overwhelmed by the myriad of self-help choices out there and need some guidance? Have you experienced loss and don’t know what to do with those intense feelings? Do you just feel like you are “going through the motions”, pleasing everyone but yourself? I get it. I’ve been there too. I work with people going through those transition periods when they are on the brink of either breakdown or breakthrough, and help them discover new and exciting possibilities as they reinvent themselves through adversity. I am a kind but practical, no-nonsense therapist. I want you to get results, not just rehash your problems over and over.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

We will get acquainted quickly and dive into your goals for therapy. After going over some background information and listening to your story, I will ask you to choose one area that you would most like to change. Here is where we will begin.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have reached an age of "maturity" and have experienced many seasons of life. I have been a love-struck young woman finding myself in a confusing world. I have pursued various career paths in an attempt to discover my purpose. I have been married to my soul mate and raised 2 wonderful sons. I have been a caregiver to my husband as he struggled mightily with depression and anxiety. And I have been widowed by that same wonderful man after he took his own life. Since his death, I have been through all the stages of grief and found myself again - a new and improved version, passionate about helping others on this journey. You will find me to be calm, kind, understanding, accepting and willing to listen.

My treatment methods

Mind-body approach

In my own life, I have made the most dramatic progress when I incorporate practices that include the body. Talking about problems only gets us so far. I have found that movement, dance, breath and meditation help us bypass the analytical mind in a more effective and permanent way.

Faith based therapy

Faith is one of the ways we make meaning in our lives. I have an appreciation of all spiritual paths, and will utilize whatever path has meaning for you, including no path at all, to help create lasting change.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I am currently in a 4 month training program for IFS. I am already finding that it is helping my clients as we identify their different internal "parts" that are often at odds with each other, but which always have a positive intention for the whole. Helping clients have compassion for the parts of themselves that sabotage, resist, block and otherwise control their lives can be an eye-opening and heart-opening experience.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I think CBT underlies most forms of talk therapy. Our minds play tricks on us as we try to make sense of the world. And we accept our thoughts and options as truth with a capital "T". The problem is that we formed many of our beliefs as children when we were vulnerable and lacked context and maturity, or during times of challenge and trauma. We made decisions about ourselves (I'm not enough), other people (It's not safe to trust . . . ) and Life (It will never be fair). And those limiting beliefs and decisions run our lives until we examine them objectively. Utilizing CBT (and other techniques), I help clients see things through a fresh lens, which frees up possibilities they have never thought about so they can move forward in a new way.
