Hi my name is Antwan and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) in the state of Alabama and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia. I have been in the counseling profession for over a decade. Along with being a licensed therapist I teach as an adjunct professor in the graduate program for Counseling and Human Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). My primary therapy approach is person-centered therapy. I help adult clients between the ages of 18-65 years old utilize identifiable resources on becoming aware of self by helping them to resolve barriers to personal growth. My primary areas of focus are mental health, substance abuse, gay/lesbian issues, anxiety, and depression.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
SPECIALTIES: • Anxiety • Depression • LGBTQIA • Self esteem • Coping with life changes Also experienced in: Trauma and abuse, Anger management, Depression, Communication Problems, Drug and Alcohol Addiction, Forgiveness, Guilt and Shame, Life Purpose, and Workplace Issues.
As a therapist, I use this treatment method to provide a nonjudgmental environment conducive to honest self-exploration.
A short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems.
As a therapist, I encourage clients to capitalize on their strengths rather than focus on negative characteristics.
The primary goal of reality therapy is to help clients find better ways to fulfill their needs. The counselor teaches the client how to evaluate their behavior, make plans for change, and set goals for themselves.
As a therapist, I aim to help a person challenge unhelpful thoughts to avoid negative emotions or behaviors.
