Hi, I’m moudy! I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Pittsburgh, PA. I have a M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I have been practicing post-graduation for 3 years. I am here to help adults who struggle to find peace and contentment in their lives due to a variety of stresses, symptoms, and crises. Together we can explore your story with the utmost care and respect to discover the life you want to live and the person you want to be.
In our intake session, we will have a conversation about who you are and what is ailing you. On your end, you’ll be figuring out if you feel enough comfort to work with me on your struggles. If you find that you do want to work with me, we will develop a treatment plan that will act as an outline for how our future sessions will go.
I believe that my greatest strengths are my relativistic/divergent thinking and capacity of understanding. What this means for you is that I will never judge you and I will be able to empathize with your story and join with you in your experience. When you are in session with me, you will not feel isolated or alone in telling your story. You will always feel my presence as your fellow traveler throughout the entire therapeutic endeavor. Furthermore, I feel that my strength is that I become a witness to what you want in this life, a reminder of your desired path that serves to help you get back to it during moments of wanting to revert back to old ways of being.
I am an eclectic therapist that utilizes a variety of techniques and skills, but Existential-Humanism is my theoretical orientation and the foundation for my practice. But what does that mean for you? First, I believe that you are more than the symptoms and stresses that you present; more so, I believe that therapy is for more than strictly managing symptoms and that it is actually a wonderful method to help you find out who you are and who you want to be. Second, I believe that the here-and-now—the present experience between you and I—is meaningful and worth our attention. During our sessions together, the interactions we share in the present will hopefully build our therapeutic relationship and—after a time—give us more clarity on who you are. From what you say or don’t say to the body language or tone of voice you use to speak, we can get to know you and—with your permission—sort through the obstacles that keep you from who you want to be.
I utilize DBT techniques and skills when someone is struggling with handling their emotions. The techniques will differ depending on the struggle. If you are someone who finds it difficult to know what emotions you are feeling, I can help teach you mindfulness skills that will bring more awareness to consciousness. If you are someone who feels overwhelmed when faced with difficult emotions, I can help you learn how to regulate those emotions so they are more manageable. If you are someone who feels like they cannot communicate effectively with the people who matter, I can help you learn how to be more assertive and less defensive about your needs and boundaries. With DBT, we can work together to help you develop a healthier relationship with your emotions.
I utilize CBT techniques and skills when someone is struggling with distorted thoughts. If you are inundated with intrusive negative thoughts, I can help you learn how to challenge the thoughts so that you have the skills necessary to clear your head. If you benefit from structured homework assignments to keep you on-task, we can develop a plan where you work through worksheets as well as journal about your experience in-between sessions. With CBT, we can work together to help you find clarity beyond the distortion.
I utilize SFBT techniques and skills when someone is struggling with a specific situation or decision. If you are faced with a problem that seems like it is too big for you to handle, I can help guide you in finding the inner strength to create a solution of your own. We will do this through exploring the times when you were not struggling with this problem and use these exceptions to craft a solution that is made for and by you. With SFBT, we can work together to help you create your own solutions that feel true to who you are.
