Hi there, I am Elizabeth Cohane, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 13 years of experience helping children, teens, and adults. I specialize in trauma-informed care and am passionate about helping my clients break through the barriers that keep them feeling stuck, while empowering them to make the changes that will allow them to experience more freedom, from the thoughts and feelings that can hold us back at times.
Our first session will include me learning about what brought you to therapy and learning more about your childhood, as I firmly believe childhood is where things begin, even when we may not realize that, at the time. From there, and with more knowledge about who you are and what is currently taking place, we will develop action steps to reduce the stress and anxiety of handling daily life tasks while managing current situations and emotions. Our work together will be about finding a sense of calm while moving through the feelings / circumstances that brought you to therapy. Before our first session, I offer a free 15-minute consultation, for you to decide if you feel comfortable working together, ask me any questions, and determine if I can be of benefit to you.
My primary goal as a provider is to create a safe and welcoming space for you to share your thoughts and feelings. I understand that beginning this journey can be both exciting and daunting, and I’m here to support you every step of the way. Every journey is unique. I tailor my approach, to meet individual needs. With sensitivity, compassion and respect; I am committed to meeting you where you are, as we embark on a journey towards mental and emotional freedom for you.
In your first session, we'll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you make progress. With CBT, we’ll look at how your thoughts affect your emotions and overall daily life experience. During treatment, I'll help you learn how to push back against those thoughts to change your feelings and subsequently your actions / reactions; for the better.
Motivational Interviewing is a technique I regularly use in my therapy practice. "MI" is person centered, the patient is the director; as I, the therapist assist in identifying the cost / benefits of situations & behaviors. From there we explore and collaborate on the most appropriate ways to assist you in feeling more in control of your life and ultimately more satisfied. That is the end goal.
