If you're struggling with grief, life changes, the state of the world, or big existential questions, I may be a good fit for you. I currently keep a very small practice of exclusively telehealth adult clientele primarily dealing with grief, life transitions, the stresses of daily life in our changing world, OCD and phobias, and navigating issues related to identity, belongingness, and a sense of life meaning and purpose. I also love working with folks looking for relief from OCD or phobias using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. Maybe you've tried talk therapies with little or no progress. ERP is a first-line, evidence-based treatment for OCD and phobias with better outcomes than other treatment modalities or meds alone. It's hard work, but it's worth it to get your life back.
We'll get a big picture overview of what brings you to therapy so we can co-create a treatment plan with realistic goals, objectives, and strategies. In session 2, we'll go over your treatment plan together so we're on the same page about what you want to achieve in therapy, how to tell if it's happening, and how we plan to get there. If you have or suspect you have OCD or life-impacting phobias, we'll also do some more in-depth assessments to reach a solid diagnosis and build an appropriate treatment plan focused on breaking the cycles that keep you stuck. This may take 2-3 sessions, but it'll help us get a true understanding of what you're struggling with so we can tailor your treatment plan accordingly.
I'm a master's-level therapist with a PhD in philosophy and a practice focused on prioritizing what's important in times of trouble and loss. I've previously worked with folks across the lifespan in a variety of settings, including inpatient psych and community outpatient, so I don't shy away from hard work or difficult topics. I'm compassionate, no BS, and a good match for clients who come to session with their work boots on.
*Those experiencing grief over loss of someone or something deeply important to them *Empty nesters *Folks dealing with the end of a significant relationship *People unsure of or confused about who they are or who they'd like to become *Anyone frightened of the state of the world and what might be on the horizon *Folks feeling disconnected, lonely, isolated, or like they don't fit in *People stuck in the obsessive-compulsive cycle *People with phobias impacting their daily lives *People having one or more existential crises If you recognize yourself on this list, let's talk.
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you uncover the core values that you hold near and dear to your heart and that give your life a sense of meaning and purpose. Then we work together to bring your life into alignment with those values each day, step by step. Along the way, we stock your coping toolkit with a variety of skills you need to survive and thrive through whatever life throws your way. This is especially helpful for folks dealing with grief or life changes and transitions, but I've found it's useful stuff for us all.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy is the gold standard for treatment of OCD and phobias. Together, we create a hierarchy of exposures and gradually work through them in and between sessions. The goal is freedom from your phobias or the obsessive-compulsive cycle, and I've found it true that that you can't talk your way out of phobias or OCD, you can only behave your way through them. ERP is an action-oriented therapy, so we spend way more time on doing than on discussing.
