I help adults heal from the wounds of trauma and grief. Additionally, I provide compassionate support to teens and college students navigating academic and personal challenges. Specifically, I love helping people learn ways to experience calm and relaxing moments, develop an understanding of feelings and why you do what you do, build a stronger sense of trust and connection to yourself and others, heal from painful past experiences including childhood trauma, grow in your ability to handle strong emotions, and expand your confidence, courage, and compassion to be your true self. I obtained my Masters degree from Millersville University and have been in the mental health field for 20 years. I'm licensed in PA, MD, FL, ID and SC.
We'll start our sessions with a relaxed, no-pressure introduction. Once we've established a comfortable connection, we'll dive into the specific challenges you're currently facing. This will help me create a personalized plan to support your growth and healing.
I value the diversity of the human nervous system and utilize somatic approaches to support healing. This provides individualized support that combines evidence-based approaches to address various mental health challenges and promote personal growth. Providing a way to regulate your emotions and improve your problem solving skills, can have implications in every area of your life from relationships, to career performance and even athletic and artistic performance. Together, we'll create a collaborative, safe, and exploratory therapeutic space, utilizing an integrated approach that goes beyond talk therapy.
EMDR has been a transformative tool in my practice, offering a powerful approach to address trauma and its lingering effects. I've witnessed firsthand how it can rapidly reduce the intensity of distressing memories and alleviate symptoms like anxiety and depression. EMDR can help you process traumatic experiences, whether recent or from the past. Bilateral stimulation facilitates the brain's natural information processing system and allows you to confront your memories in a safe and controlled environment, gradually reducing their emotional charge. EMDR's effectiveness lies in its ability to target the root causes of emotional distress. By addressing and reprocessing traumatic memories, you can break free from the cycle of negative thoughts and feelings, leading to lasting positive change.
I find Internal Family Systems (IFS) to be a profoundly transformative therapeutic approach. It views the mind as a dynamic system of parts, each with its own unique role and perspective. In my practice, I utilize IFS to help clients develop a deeper understanding of their inner world. By identifying and compassionately engaging with these parts, we can address underlying issues and promote healing. This process often involves: Part Identification: Helping you recognize and name the different parts within them, such as the "perfectionist," the "critic," or the "anxious protector." Part Listening: Creating a safe space for each part to express its feelings and needs without judgment. Self Leadership: Empowering you to connect with your core Self, a calm and compassionate center that can guide and soothe the parts. Through IFS, you gain valuable insights and develop greater self-awareness and self-compassion. This leads to increased resilience, improved relationships, and a greater sense of overall well-being.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has been a powerful tool in my therapeutic practice. In my work with clients, I utilize ACT to help them develop a more mindful and accepting relationship with their thoughts and feelings. We explore strategies such as mindfulness meditation, cognitive defusion, and values clarification. Through these techniques, you'll learn to: Accept your thoughts and feelings: Rather than trying to control or suppress them, you'll learn to observe your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Commit to action: By identifying your core values, you can take steps to live a meaningful life, even in the face of challenges. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness techniques help you stay present-focused and reduce rumination. By combining acceptance and commitment, ACT empowers you to break free from unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior, leading to greater psychological well-being and a more fulfilling life.
Brainspotting has been a powerful addition to my therapeutic toolkit. This therapy focuses on identifying and processing unresolved trauma stored in the body and brain. By locating specific eye positions that correlate with emotional experiences, Brainspotting allows clients to access and release these deeply held emotions. Brainspotting can help you address a wide range of issues, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and performance anxiety. Through guided eye positions and gentle questioning, you can tap into your unconscious mind and process difficult emotions in a safe and supportive environment. One of the most remarkable aspects of Brainspotting is its ability to facilitate healing by directly targeting the root causes of emotional distress, leading to significant relief from symptoms and achieving lasting transformation.
Ultimately, I believe in a holistic approach to therapy, drawing on various therapeutic modalities to tailor treatment to each client's unique needs. This integrative approach allows me to address the multifaceted nature of human experience, encompassing thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and bodily sensations. In my practice, I incorporate techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based practices, EMDR, brainspotting and ACT.
