Hey there! As a former NCAA Division I athlete I know all too well about the unique challenges that come along with being a student-athlete, in addition to all the ‘regular’ everyday life challenges we face. I've played organized sports since elementary and attended Texas Southern University on a full basketball scholarship for 4 years; and, if i could do it all over again, I would do it with a therapist by my side. My name is Jessica Hornage; and, I have over 12 years of working experience in the mental health field. For the past 7 years, I have been fully licensed as a professional counselor in Texas. I opened my practice, Innate Counseling and Therapeutic Center, in 2017 in Dallas, Tx which is where the groundwork was laid for my career. I have gained experience in a variety of mental health settings working with different populations throughout Texas. I am most passionate about helping people of color fight through the disadvantages and stigmas surrounding mental health in our communities. Currently, I provide services to adults 18 and older. I provide trauma-informed care and integrate a variety of therapeutic methods tailored to fit my client's individual needs.
Finding a therapist that’s a good fit can be difficult and time-consuming. I hope to ease that process for you as much as possible by offering a free 15 min phone consultation to discuss your needs and get to know each other a little before scheduling a therapy appointment. My therapy style is relaxed and relatable with just the right balance of challenge and professionalism. During our first therapy session together, you can expect a review of paper-work and any questions before diving more into the challenges you are having. I will provide feedback and recommendations and work closely with you to determine a plan of action to meet your needs.
My greatest strength as a provider is trust-building. Clients are usually surprised by how fast they become comfortable in the therapy space with me and how much they can share in our first session.
My belief is that traumatic experiences can profoundly alter an individual’s physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. I use various techniques to help better understand how my client's experiences have impacted their lives and the problems they are currently trying to understand and resolve for themselves.
I do not believe in a one-size-fit-all approach; so, I pull from a variety of traditional and nontraditional holistic methods. I work closely with my clients to determine what best fits their individual needs.
