New to Grow
Hi! I'm Dr. Susie King and I'm a licensed Clinical Psychologist. I offer individual therapy via telehealth to adults in California. I most often work with those experiencing Narcissistic Abuse, neurodivergence- such as ADHD and Autism, and Alcohol Abuse. I have been working in the mental health field since 2008, as a therapist since 2011, and I've been in private practice since 2018 / 2019. My background is in child and adolescent psychology, forensic psychology, and addiction treatment. Since then, I've focused the work in my private practice to individual adults.
Our first session will be a friendly conversation where I will ask what you've been struggling with, your goals for therapy, I'll gather some background info, and where you can also ask me any questions you may have. From there we'll end the session by talking about what to expect going forward.
As a Clinical Psychologist, I can offer you more skill than the average therapist. I have extensive training on a wide range of clinical concerns, therapeutic techniques, and in the science and practice of psychology.
I see many high-functioning adults who feel burned out from life stress, parenting challenges, relationship and family problems, Narcissistic Abuse, adult ADHD, and Asperger's / Autism. Many of the people I see use alcohol or other substances to cope with their stress, and may be seeking help for overcoming an addiction. I work with adults of all ages, both men and women, of all demographics. These days society has people feeling so polarized and uncertain of what they can say and to whom. Many don't know if they can trust a therapist to be nonjudgmental and unbiased. Some people are afraid of therapy for this reason, understandably so. But I believe it is not about men vs women, this generation vs that generation, right vs left, victim vs oppressor, etc. We are all just doing our best. We can all find our common humanity. I will never judge you or make you feel guilty for who you are and what you believe. In my practice I see many women experiencing anxieties about their fertility, grief with miscarriage or infertility, fears about pregnancy and birth, the stress of motherhood, and challenges coping with the hormonal changes of perimenopause and menopause. I also work with many men coping with loneliness and deep emotional pain they've been pushing down for years, often involving problems with dating, divorce, career difficulties, ambivalence about their masculinity, and estrangement from children. I work with younger adults navigating independence, college, relationships, and jobs for the first time. I see mid-life adults who are juggling career, marriage, children, and caring for elderly parents. And I see older adults who are finding a purpose in the midst of retirement, supporting adult children, and coping the difficulties that come with aging.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is used to help you identify and challenge any negative thought patterns or behaviors that might be contributing to your difficulties. By working together, we can replace them with more positive and adaptive thoughts and actions.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic therapy techniques will explore your unconscious processes and early-life experiences to gain deeper insight into any underlying conflicts or patterns that might be influencing your emotions, behaviors, and relationships. This exploration can bring about a greater understanding of yourself to help you make meaningful changes.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma-informed care means that I understand how your past traumatic experiences can affect your mental and emotional health in the present.
Existential
I incorporate Existentialism into therapy. This approach focuses on exploring the fundamental questions and challenges of human existence, such as finding meaning and purpose in life, making difficult choices, and confronting existential anxiety. This can help you develop a clearer sense of your values and priorities, leading to a more fulfilling and authentic life.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) focuses on exploring and resolving any ambivalence or uncertainty you may have about making changes in your life. Through empathetic listening and collaborative goal-setting, I will help enhance your motivation and support you in making positive changes that align with your values and goals.
